He could be both. A cap dump for Vancouver and positive value for Calgary. That's one of the reasons this trade works for both teams. Whether he actually turns out to be positive for Calgary remains to be seen, but I think that's the way they see him now.

Their scouts were right about Sharangovich having good bounceback potential. Kuzmenko seems like more of a gamble than Sharangovich, but I think they must see similar potential there. Not having to retain salary on Lindholm may have been important to them too if they plan to make more trades.

Yegor was a specific target that they wanted. The main piece of the deal.

Kuzmenko is "this is the cap we need to take back in order to get these other pieces"

I don't think it's particularly similar. Specifically because there's not much for kuzmenko to "bounce back" to. His season last year was carried by a ridiculously unsustainable shooting%. He's never going to get close to 27% again

He doesn't have to bounce all the way back to 39 goals to be a useful player for Calgary, or even to be worth $5.5M. They're going to have to carry that cap hit all the way through next season, and they're not a rebuilding team (some people will argue that they should be, but that's not their strategy) so they're going to need cap space to replace the players they're losing or keep those they still have. I don't think they would have taken him if they didn't want him.

As far as the shooting percentage goes, they said the same thing about Brandon Hagel when he was traded from Chicago to Tampa Bay. It wasn't 27%, but it was over 20. He's done pretty well with Tampa Bay. He was a lot younger and hadn't already started to regress before the trade, so not a good player comparison, but this tells me not to read too much into shooting percentage. I'm not predicting Kuzmenko will be a consistent 30-goal scorer, but I'm not giving up on him yet either. I think it depends on where they're able to slot him into the lineup.

My guess is that it's the highest one considering Vancouver also has New Jersey's 4th in addition to their own

Lindholm played on the top line with EP40 for Team Sweden. They are also friends. Reuniting them might be something EP40 requested. It certainly won't harm the Canucks chances to resign either.

Kuzmenko is fun to watch on offense (power-play specialist) but has completely lost his and the Canuck's confidence. He is a liability defensively. He will be exposed on a weak team. He is one of the more adorable players in the league and an awesome interview. (A cross between Munenori Kawasaki and Ilya Bryzgalov.)
Jarmo needs to sign by this June or is also UFA. He is a huge stay-at-home defenceman. Not likely to come over to NA but I am certain the Flames will do their best.
Hunter turned 19 in November and didn't qualify for the WJC. He is having an outstanding season for the Rangers. Still just a B+ prospect.
All picks are lottery tickets. The more you have the greater the chance one has of cashing in.

Best part of this trade is the Canucks didn't have to part with any of their top A prospects: Willander, EP2, or Lekkermaki

Canucks will need to make the WCF for it to convert to a third. Otherwise, what you said is the result.

Kuzmenko had Calgary on his no trade list is hilarious. Canucks will reward him by engraving his name on the Stanley Cup. He played 43 games so his services count.

The Nucks win because Lindholm was clearly the best center available this year and they are a much better team now. Great package for Calgary, generally speaking, but at the same time Van is win now mode.

They got the best center available, with teams that wanted him. Big dub.

As an aside, what does Boston do now? Dvorak? ..

I have a feeling the Nucks will resign him as well, but this is a huge offseason for this management team.

Not only do they have to get EP40, Hronek, and Lindholm signed, all of which will be big time numbers, but also there are a ton of depth pieces here that either need resigned to similar hits, or have outplayed those numbers and need raises.

In no particular order, Bluger, Lafferty, Joshua, Myers, Cole, and Zadorov are all UFA as well.

Also, as an aside again, I mentioned Dvorak as a Bruins candidate in a prior post but they'll probably be in on Henrique as well. They basically need a center to have any shot vs those ATL teams in the playoffs.

Yeah even if Vancity doesn't go far this season all they have to do to win this trade is extend Lindholm...anyone underestimating Lindholm doesn't know much about hockey and that's why Lindholm commanded the price Vancouver paid...for Vancouver to win this trade all they have to do is resign Lindholm which is almost certain they will...

Yeah they probably will, as he will be a priority, but man what an offseason it will be for them with roster changeover and long term money given out... apparently they're big in on Jake so buckle up buddy!

I wouldn't expect this to really impact the market for Monahan, as they aren't really comparables other than the sense they are centers and (potential) rentals. Lindholm is a selke, top-six forward compared to Monahan who is a good middle-six pickup for a contending team. VAN is the best team in the league by record and makes more sense to pay a premium for a premium player. Monahan is a nice powerplay/faceoff guy, but I wouldn't really put these two in the same category.

Oh yes! I remember when ppl were saying Lindholm was this Uber effective player and Monahan was just a specialist.
Turns out Monahan at PP1 and line 2 is far more effective on the Jets as opposed to 3rd line PP2 Lindholm when he’s in the lineup.

The return keeps growing with the Jets losing streak.

1st rounder from Winnipeg figures to be between picks 22-25 overall as opposed to the Canucks pick to the Flames between picks 26-32

If the Habs can get a Beckett Sennecke type that late. It would be the best asset in either trade.

Kuzmenko has been unreal on the Flames playing with Kadri and was robbed of a hat trick last night with a stoppage on a phantom high stick call.

you guys just blew your chance at a cup,the avs really needed Lindy. the canucks gave up more for Lindholm than they got for Horvat. I really like Kuzmenko he has elite skill.

Luckily Buffalo exists.
