Description
Pinto needs to take a little 1 year pay cut understanding cap will go up and likely one (or both) of Kubalik and Tarasenko won't be returning next year, but maybe under new ownership we can add some kind of signing bonus

Would have to send JBD down on waivers, but would rather that then give up a first or second round pick with Joseph who we need on the 3rd line and PK

Pinto is an RFA with no arbitration rights. If he wants to play he doesn't have any other options other than to sit out for half the season like Nylander did. He has the same agent by the way.

This is the response right here. Nothing else is as correct as this statement and most fans on this site in general let alone Sens fans right now don’t seem to understand this. Pinto deserves at least $2.5M based on comparative players. You don’t leave $1.5M on the table cause ur boss is an idiot and can’t manage his job correctly. That’s life changing money nobody is passing up on that money especially a young kid trying to set himself up for life. Nothing is guaranteed and handshake deals are stupid. He could get hurt at any point during the season then Dorion could screw him again.

Wrong answer . Joseph is valuable . You don’t move a 1st to dump him , hell you don’t move anything to dump him.

Ok let him sit out this season, he won’t get paid anything, he won’t get injured and the sens will have the cap to sign him in January for the following year.

It’s insane to me that you think if Dorion makes him sit out a whole year that he will still be a Senator lol. If Dorion forces him go sit due to his own incompetence I guarantee you he requests a trade then his value plummets

If not Joseph, move Branntsrom, Forsberg, whomever. No sacred cows.

Priority would be getting Pinto signed...preferably with term.

Preferably without term. A 1 year deal with the AAV as low as possible is best

7-8 year is best...

There is no better time to lock up RFAs than the season before cap goes up to $87.5m, then $92m

I agree but we can’t afford it this year. If he can hold on, on a 1 year deal till January he can get his 8 year deal locked in

I never seen you suggest Kubalik but he's the most likely guy to be moved (or Brannstrom). Forsberg won't be moved since Korpisalo signed in Ottawa to play with him). It also allows Sogaard to continue his development in the AHL

And the term for Pinto could happen in 3 months... there's no point to give him more than a 1 year bridge now (unless you're scared that he totally explodes this season, which would be hard considering all the 1st line players the Sens have)

Kubalik too. You would know better than I would! If anything, I just usually stay clear if suggesting a guy who was so recently acquired.

Kubalik is a guy I wanted for Devils at one point. We have tons of smaller perimeter players…few big-body-soft-hand types who can play near crease. We probably don’t have space for him now (maybe at the spot Nosek and Foote are battling over now, if neither work). But I imagine there are other teams looking for the same.

On RFAs in general, I think teams are wise to lock them up this year since cap is expected to go up $4m or so in each of next two years. Signing a guy at 5% of cap today costs about $400k less than it would in two years, based on current projections.

2023: 5% of $83.5m = $4.175m
2024: 5% of $87.5m = $4.375m
2025: 5% of $92.9m = $4.600m

I see... but Kubalik is redundant in Ottawa, particularly since they signed Tarasenko. Look at all the forwards and D-men and it will be hard to give Kubalik some PP time, particularly when everyone is healthy, and he needs PP time to produce

It's the guy that makes the most sense to move. Can't move Brannstrom because 1 injury in the Top-4 and we're screwed and teams want to be paid to take on Joseph, who is just as good if not better than Kubalik at ES, plus elite on the PK.

Bad timing for Ottawa, can't lock up anybody else with no cap space. Next year is different and this is why Sanderson is already locked up
