I love messing with leaf fans too, but in all seriousness they’ll be #1 in the Atlantic pretty comfortably unless they just get decimated with injuries. Think Ottawa will be better than a lot of people will want to admit, but we’re at least a couple years away from being on the leafs level. If we can grab a wildcard spot I’d be happy haha

I enjoy when people troll Leafs fan too (despite my username), but at least make it a good one; like playoff success or something like that

This is just a Sens fan who grasps at straws to make up his inferiority complex with the Leafs

Ottawa isn’t top heavy at all. Maybe their offence is but it’s way top less heavy than the leafs. And next year with a lot of cap space is when they’ll go crazy on getting depth

No, they won't lol... Sanderson's big contract will kick in and they will have even less depth lol... Next year they will have: Stuzle, Tkachuk, Norris, Sanderson, Chabot and Giroux making 6 mill+. That's 46 mill wrapped up into 6 players... Toronto will have 4 and 1 is on an expiring contract lol... Again, Ottawa's top heavy and their top isn't as good as Toronto's

thats what people said last year too. think you would have learned something.

I for one didn't because I think Dorion is the worst GM (since Benning got fired) and DJ Smith the worst coaching staff. At least they don't have the worst owner anymore

Dorion traded Brown and Paul for Joseph + 2nd + 4th, didn't plan for Formenton disappearing (even though we learned about the TC situation BEFORE the off-season) and didn't make smart signings. Also traded Gustavsson for Talbot. Never thought DeBrincat was the type of forward they needed although I thought the price to acquire him was reasonable

Ended up with the worst bottom-6 in the NHL, Stutzle and Sanderson were also 20 y/o.

When Norris was injured and a rookie (Pinto) was forced into a 2nd line C role after missing a whole season himself, the season was cooked.

JBD will be inexpensive for a while, same with Sokolov. Kubalik will be let go, Brannstrom will be traded (to make room for Kleven)...

It's mostly Pinto long term extension (which I guess will be around 4.5 AAV) and replace Tarasenko, or keep him

I 100% agree with you with the coaching and Gm situation. think Dj smith has to go before they reach the playoffs. will they make it? i dont know, but i honestly hope so. dont think there is a world where thry are better than the leafs, and im a habs fan.

Cute how the same 3 sens fans continuously guarantee their upcoming dominance. I would wait till I had cap for a full team, a healthy Chychrun Chabot Pinto Zub, a decent G, all while holding my breath watching Norris & Senko taking a hit, before poking the bear lol

But it will be 1.5+ mill for each similar to Sandin and Lilly's percentage of cap wich will leave OTT with less than 15 mill of cap space

Sokolov and JBD? Don't think Sokolov will stick in the NHL, unfortunately for him, great kid. JBD has another cheap year and will probably continue to be inexpensive after that

There won't be a world where the Leafs are worse that the Sens... Remember, the Leafs lost their entire defensive core due to injuries last year and were still better than Ottawa...

Then you'll still have to fill his hole and upgrade somehow... It's going to cost something to do that... And JDB will take the Lilly/Sandin/Hague contract bc everyone's been doing that...

You should start preparing yourself mentally, looks like you'll need it. Yes the Leafs have been better in the regular season the last 6 years (and last season in the playoffs) but prior that, The Sens blasted them out of this world for a dozen years

JBD won't be as good as these, at least not right away. He's going to be for a while a 3rd pairing defensive D-man who isn't that physical

Here's what the team will look like next season :

Signings estimate : Pinto ($4,500,000), Reinhardt ($900,000), Crookshank ($900,000)

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Stützle - Giroux
Ostapchuk - Pinto - Joseph
Reinhardt- Kastelic - MacEwen
Crookshank

Sanderson - Chychrun
Chabot - Zub
Kleven - JBD
Hamonic

Korpisalo
Forsberg

BUYOUTS (1)
Colin White (-$625,000)

DETAILS
Roster Size: 22
Salary Cap: $87,500,000
Cap Hit: $82,725,714
Cap Space: $4,774,286

Brännström will most likely be traded to make space for Kleven. Can afford a pretty forward upgrade... Say you trade Brannstrom, Joseph (who will have positive value again) and picks/prospects... you have near 8 M$ of cap space to replace Joseph in the Top-9

Because the Sens have such a great track record vs the Leafs in the playoffs... And the Leafs have had more wins head to head since Ottawa entered the league... And the Leafs had an awful GM for a large chunk of that time...

Estimating JDB gets 1.4 mill and Pinto gets 4.5 mill (roughly 5.9 mill tied up in those guys), that leaves Ottawa with 9.1 mill in cap space left to 'improve depth' like most sense fans have been saying... But they also have to remember that they will have to fill the Tarasenko and Kubalik void before making upgrades to depth... Meaning Ott has no room for upgrades

46 mill on 6 players is 7.6 each to your top 6. That's a reasonable rate in today's game
Toronto (assuming nylander at 9.5) will be spending 52 on their top 5, and will need to sign:
-Starting goalie
-4 NHL regular defensemen
-at least 1, potentially 2 assuming knies doesn't become a true top 6 option, top 6 players
-the rest of the depth to fill out the roster

They prob won't be resigning Nylander TBH... I think he's going to get traded... And like you said, that leaves them with 33 mill to sign (assuming Cowan/Minten/Robertson don't make the jump, Woll can't play starter and Knies is playing 3rd line, which I doubt all 3 will happen): 2LW, 2RW, 3RW, 4LW, 1RD, 2RD, 3LD and G1 which is very reasonable to do...

But, if all 3 of what I said happened, then they would have 31 mill to sign a 2LW, 2RW, 1RD, 2RD, 3LD, 2G which is very reasonable too...

even a 1B goalie will cost 3+ on the low end. Likely you're looking at needing a 1A with Woll as 1B best case scenario. let's be gentle and say 4 for UFA.

the going rate on even mediocre middle pairing dmen is about 4 and top pairing would be about 6. There's 10 mill. but let's give a 1 mill discount for liligren being a RFA. 9
another 2 for your bottom pairing
lets say another 5 for your bottom line+3 scratches (800-850k each)

That's 20+42.6 for your big 4 (NO NYLANDER)+9.6 for other rostered players.

Leaving: 15 mill (give or take 1-2) to replace Nylander, Bertuzzi, and Domi

Sure... Let's just assume Sammy stays at 3.8 for the sake of arguing...

Fair... Unless Brodie comes back and take 2.5-3 like most of us think he will... That would leave roughly 6 for and RD 1...

Lilly should get 3-3.5 mill as well so still fair

Assuming they can get Bert for 6 and Domi for 3 again... They should be left with roughly 5 mill in cap space for a 3RW and 4LW, assuming Cowan, Robertson, Niemela and Minten can't make the jump

A 4LW and 3RW shouldn't cost to much (roughly 3.7 combined) you can, depending on Timmins staying, go out and sign a 3RD and can have a lineup similar to this:
Bert-Matthews-Marner
Knies-Tavares-Domi
Jarnkrok-Kampf-3RW
4LW-Holmberg-Reaves

Rielly-1RD
McCabe-Lilly/2RD
Brodie-Timmins/Lilly/3RD

Sammy
Woll

Keefe
Treliving

Which looks very good

Because the Sens have such a great track record vs the Leafs in the playoffs... And the Leafs have had more wins head to head since Ottawa entered the league... And the Leafs had an awful GM for a large chunk of that time...

Have to go 20 years back in time? Were you even born?

Who has the most wins vs Toronto since 1995-96? Ottawa, 70-49-3-13 record

Of course, if you count the first 4-5 years after the 92 expansion, it gives the Leafs a huge advantage but looking at it, they didn't play many games in these first few years, so a 70-54-3-13 record

Where did you get that the Leafs have had more wins head to head? It's not factual

Aren't most of us here to talk about hockey?

Of course but some feel the need to troll

Estimating JDB gets 1.4 mill and Pinto gets 4.5 mill (roughly 5.9 mill tied up in those guys), that leaves Ottawa with 9.1 mill in cap space left to 'improve depth' like most sense fans have been saying... But they also have to remember that they will have to fill the Tarasenko and Kubalik void before making upgrades to depth... Meaning Ott has no room for upgrades

I literally just showed you a 22 men roster with near 5 M$ of cap space. The only need should be a Top-9 forward to bump Ostapchuk on the 4th line and have one of Reinhardt and Crookshank in the AHL

Don't even need to touche the defense and goaltending. They have an ideal cap situation going forward
