Description
Three way trades are pretty complicated and I almost gave myself a headache thinking this up. Let me know if its far off or a decent trade.

Definitely a unique solution, value is not too far off for all sides. It's just to me Boquist is such a wildcard player, either people still view him as a high pick or overvalued all together.

What is the point of acquiring Adam Boqvist? Where would he fit? What would be his career path with Ottawa (Chychrun, Zub, Thomson, JBD, Guenette, even Hamonic in the way)? He's similar to Brannstrom except that Brannstrom is miles better defensively

Otherwise, the values are not bad at all

Boqvist was on track for 50 points last year, he's a hell of a lot better offensively than Brannstrom. Hamonic is a 6th/7th D and the prospects probably won't become NHLers any time soon either way. Boqvist at $1.3 million is insane value.

Silly Jackets proposal. Crookshank and Thomson would have zero chance at a future in Columbus and they have too many forwards they want to give roster spots to now and in the near future to fit in Joseph.

Lets say we took out Crookshank and Thomson from the trade, what would Ottawa have to add to make this worthwhile?

Mathieu is the hard no. Yes, Columbus has cap space right now, but they very much will not as soon as next season.

True, but Joseph could put up 30-35 points and you'd be able to trade him away for positive value next offseason with the cap going up.

24 pts in 46 games = 43 pts pace

9 of these 24 pts are PP assists, so it means 15 pts in 46 games at ES (27 ES pts pace)

Brannstrom had 17 ES pts in 74 games (19 ES pts pace)

Sure it's less but Brannstrom's defensive game is CONSIDERABLY better. It's a major strength for Brannstrom and a liability in AB's game. That said, it could change and maybe he will figure it out like Brannstrom did

Not sure why we're comparing them anyway... Brannstrom is a LHD and Boqvist is a RHD, they wouldn't be in competition

But the question is more : how would Boqvist get a minute of PP in Ottawa?

Yes but he'd blocked in Ottawa like Brannstrom is blocked.

Chabot-Chychrun
Sanderson-Zub

He's not going to play over Chychrun and Zub, no PP time and less time at ES too (so less production). Then there's Hamonic who wasn't re-signed to sit.

There's no point in acquiring him, unless it'd mean we're trading someone else (Chychrun? Zub? Hamonic and his NMC?). Trading JBD and/or Thomson doesn't affect this

Yeah, but Columbus already has two guys under contract who fit the same "fast as hell but has hands of stone" mold in Foudy and Robinson. No sense in taking on the risk that Joseph can't be flipped when you've already got similar players on the roster, especially when the players already here have a combined cap hit less than Joseph's.

Having to also give up Adam Boqvist pretty much negates whatever "sweeteners" are in this trade. And I don't see anything that's remotely sweet. Thomson might be the sixth or seventh best defense prospect in the Jackets' pool and with his handedness there is essentially zero chance of ever getting an NHL game with Columbus, Crookshank has no value at all, and that second is more than likely closer to being a third.

Which is why I asked what sweetener would make you consider the trade.

And I'm telling you that Columbus isn't taking Joseph, period. They have two similar players whose combined cap hit is less than his and less term remaining, and desperate need for cap space as soon as next summer. Talk to Anaheim or pony up what Briere wants.

The sweetener would be taking Joseph out of the trade.
