Had a feeling Jarnkrok was gonna be out of practice as I remember during the first preseason game SN announcers said he was with the med staff

Got a feeling he plays Wednesday like JT and Brodie

But if this is to move him to make room for say a FA forward like Kane/ or a prospect and also add another FA like Bear thats not bad now is it.

Cause honestly adding a blue liner like Bear could be beneficial as I do agree with Tree where its a bit of a work in progress

It kinda would be. Any Jarnkrok move to just to make us cap compliant. Extra money goes towards extra skaters. Kane will no doubt be out of our price range, and while I'd like adding Bear, I wouldn't do it at the cost of 15 - 20 goals

Was doing the math and its interesting. If the Leafs move Jarnkrok and Bobby McMann comes back (factoring a Timmins waive as well). They got 1.9m to spend. Now if Kane goes I will take the Wheeler deal than you can easily add both guys

1m x 1 year for Bear and 825k x 1 year with 300k PB for Kane (22 man team with Gio and Reaves being rotation pieces)

Basically

Bertuzzi-Matthew-Kane
Knies-JT-Marner
Robertson-Domi-Nylander
McMann-Kampf-Lafferty

Rielly-Bear
McCabe-Liligren
Brodie-Klingberg

Sammy
Woll

Extras: Reaves, Gio

So Klingberg hasn’t eased any of my concerns and that Gregor - Kampf - Reaves line is 🤢

1 game of the preseason. Give Klinger some time man. Let's not go overboard on preseason nonsense

Bear isn't very good. There is a reason he hasn't stuck anywhere so far.

Van didnt really move on from Bear because he wasnt good. Due to his injury and surgery they thought it best not to give a QO and it made sense as why pay 2.2m for a guy whose gonna be out for a while. Wait till hes healthy then league min to 1m for a year which honestly makes thing interesting for them

Hughes-Bear
Soucy-Hronek
Cole-Myers
Rathbone or Wolanin

Carolina was a surprise he should have fit there but BridAmour had other ideas. EDM he was very good only reason they wanted to move him was to try and improve scoring depth. Not the best idea as Nurse hasnt look the same since he left but meh happens. As lets be real with the impact Foegele has made EDM probs wish they kept Bear

But as to Bear not being good pretty false if not inaccurate. He made everyone he played with in Van better and had some good stats playing next to Hughes. Heck his stats in EDM were pretty good and man that rookie he season he had was scary. Second toughest minute matchup for a Dman dam.

https://canucksarmy.com/news/ethan-bear-demonstrably-made-his-canucks-teammates-better-throughout-2022-23

Put it this way he would be a solid partner for Rielly or McCabe and allow us to keep Gio out of the lineup to use sparingly free Brodie up to be paired with Klingberg

McCabe-Liligren
Brodie-Klingberg
Gio

Thats a solid Dcore for now

Very willing to wait it out till American Thanksgiving to see how it plays out but Treliving locking up Kampf/Reaves for 3.75 for the next 6 years is very yikes.

I will evaluate this team like I do every year at American Thanksgiving. But yes, after one game his defensive play is exactly as I thought it would be.

To me Toronto should look to add one more Dman to allow for Brodie to play with Klingberg

All defense meets all offense as a third pair of those 2 guys aint bad

McCabe-Liligren
Brodie-Klingberg
Gio

Insert Bear to play with Rielly or McCabe and it allows for it. Will require someone moved from the forwards but its doable

I don't know about the rest of you but I only care about winning, changes,no changes or whatever. If the team doesn't win when it counts 6-7 years into a rebuilt team then at some point changes are made, good, bad or indifferent.

Been a fan of this team far too long to be too invested in any one player and now it's only about winning as far as I'm concerned.

He's pretty bad defensively, has a history of it.

Never liked the add and never will.
I personally can't wait till I can pile on people that said the signing is fine etc....

100% you will only see his faults and none of his worth. Just like so many fans look at Nylander. Guy can dominate a game score 3 points and miss one back check and that's all some will see. It's ridiculous

The thing is nobody ever expected him to be good at defense. He was brought in to create more offense on the blue line and to help with puck transition

As lets be honest do all goals need to come from forwards no

If we look at Toronto's Blue line production reg season last season (not including players who were traded out)

Liligren 6 goals
Reilly 4 goals
Giordano 4 goals
Brodie 2 goals
Timmins 2 goals
Holl 2 goals
McCabe 1 goal
Schenn 1 goal

Now lets compare to a top blue line like Carolina

Burns 18 goals
Skeji 18 goals
Slavin 7 goals
Chatfield 6 goals
Pesce 5 goals
Ghost 3 goals
De-Haan 2 goals

As for Klingberg he had 10 goals.

Would be nice to have some production on the back end and not just from the core 4 or forwards in general. We have enough defensive only guys to pair with him so as long as we use him properly got no worries. 1 year deal and if it works out like Barrie in EDM should have some good firepower to work with.

Now do I think Leafs still need to add one more Dman yes but its not in the purpose of pushing Klingberg out. Basically a main reason I want Bear as with him you can have Brodie-Klingberg become a third pair and it should work nicely

I'm hoping we are flipping Klingberg for a D with term at deadline to be honest.

I mean what Dman with term is gonna be available who we 1. Can afford and 2. Can make as good of an impact offensively while being better defensively.

If we look at every projected non contender options are slim and not many would make a real improvement. Now that could change but from looking at whose projected to contend and not its slim pickings rn.

The one way you can see the Leafs add a good Dman with term is by moving Willy but with Willy being a rental Idk if a team would do that even the NYI

A Dobson for Willy deal would be intriguing but even Lou aint that crazy

In general Leafs best chance at some good Dman with term will probs be through FA next year. But this all depends on if they want to keep Willy or not and how much hes gonna cost.

It’s crazy the amount of fans who are so comfortable dumbing Timmins.

Well the main issue is he's got no spot and at 1.1m doesnt make much sense to sit in the pressbox

Nice to see him increase his trade value though so we can at least get something

He is a bottom 4 ofd. I like him, and I want him here - but for the most part he isn't worth getting worked up about.

Right, because injuries never happen. You have a great offensive D signed at a very cheap cap hit for two years can could very well be even better next year.

I mean you got Lagesson at 775k if u need someone

1.1m really isnt cheap for a #7Dman league as thats not league min

Better to move him and get an asset at this point that sit him out

RFA expiry no less. He's a big body, RHD with great offensive instincts at worst an a solid 2 way guy at best. Can't win with Leafs fans 🤷‍♂️
