brutal Atlantic division

Description
Let's send our rookies down to Laval to learn in a winning environment.

Even if we are decent this year. The Atlantic Division is too brutal to make the playoff. So might as well tank and get another top 5 prospect.

Let the players have fun and develop in the AHL - have them go on a long playoff drive for the Calder cup. The AHL is far better for them to develop their skills and creativity than the NHL.

bring all of them back up next year after we draft a Celebrini or Demidov. That would be great.

Yep. All in on the tank.

Ghule is probably too good for the AHL - but it would make an AMAZING dcore in Laval. Yet all 3 would benefit from more dev time to play on the PP, PK and generally developping their offensive game.

I get it to a point but I think you're worse off throwing guys who have already had significant NHL time back down to the AHL just to avoid losing. The only thing I think makes sense is whoever out of Guhle/Xhekaj/Barron doesn't make the top 6 out of camp should be sent down to Laval to get top pair minutes there, instead of being the 7th D in the NHL (that's what guys like Chris Wideman are here for.)

I agree with that compromise when it's unrealistic to see a guy like Ghule go to the AHL. I think Xhekaj would benefit the most from being sent down. He's got more skills than we think and we could become more than a 6th D who fights. He moves well - there might be an extra gear that could be developed.

Guhle would stay up, his development would get slowed down in the AHL. He will get quite a few minutes in the NHL this year. Slaf maybe for a few games coming off of season ending injury maybe but i doubt it. Xhekaj could be there and bump up and down. Barron probably most of the season in the NHL if hes playing bad or losing confidence send him down

Can you really tell me that Slaf and Barron are thriving in the NHL? they still need more time. I don't want to create another KK scenario.

By sending everyone down - no feelings are hurt.

Xhekaj should start the year in the AHL, play double the minutes and be a factor, if/when he develops more he could be a for sure call up halfway through the season who knows

Yeah, I agree that Ghule is pretty much ready for the NHL.

In some way, I want them to prove that they belong at Camp... not because they are a good prospects/rookies. Like if Slaf can't manage to outplay anybody in the top 9, I rather he be sent down to Laval instead of playing 12min each night.

Send him down so he can play 18 minutes and on the PP and PK.

I think we agree with the principle, we just disagree on the extend.

I think Barron could use a year in the AHL possibly, but i think it would make most sense for slaf to start the year up in the NHL and if he is losing confidence or not playing great send him down. Slaf should be better than KK though imo even if KK fully developed

You have to keep in mind that the AHL style of play doesn't help the development of certain player types.
Top talent are few since they don't thrive in the classic 4th-line dump and chase style.

why not just send ghule and slaf to the echl, i'm sure they could dominate even more there, would be so massively beneficial to their development as NHL players...

I rather do it in reverse - I want to to gain confidence with AHL then be brought up filled with confidence. Otherwise, it feels like a punishement.
