Versteeg Done and a couple pieces

Description
Efforts were made to try and unload a couple of the bad contracts and get back picks and a couple players.

Sam Reinhart had a rough year in Buffalo. Maybe it was he just didn't like the coach and maybe the Sabres just aren't a fit for him. My thought is bring him and put him on a line with Bennett giving Bennett a guy in his own age group to bond with and run wild. I think have Lazar in the middle and playing basically 4th line, maybe the kids can find chemistry and do some damage against other teams 4th lines.

I kept Stajan around for the last year because he really does add leadership and is a damn good penalty killer. Good face off guy and still has enough play making ability that between him and Versteeg I'd like to think they could feed Gagne and produce some decent points as a line.

I know everyone wants to unload Brouwer and Bouma, but it is just not going to happen easily. We will have to live with them both this season and in the case of Bouma just bury him in the minors if we need the cap space. Bouma may be tradable at the deadline for a 3rd or 4th pick, but I think that is even unlikely.

As far as Brouwer goes there is just no reason for a team to take him, even if we retain $1.0. Even with a huge rebound year who would want him for 2 more years. It just doesn't make any sense to give up anything to take him. Buyout in year 4 may make sense, but to costly right now to buy him out for 6 long years.

Funny thing is I actually like Brouwer and hope that year 1 here was just due to adjusting to a new team and system. Didn't seem like they knew exactly where to play him to get the most out of him.
I really hope he has a bit of a rebound in year 2, but it seems everyone wants to unload him, so when I take a shot at these things I just play along and try to unload him too.

Gotta say, you didn't completely rip me apart for this one, so that's a positive smile

Just because Sam Reinhart didn't have the best season doesn't mean that you're gonna get him for a collection of middling picks/prospects. Imagine if someone offered that same package for Bennett - you'd laugh in their face and hang up the phone.
