I never really liked Reaves, was John Scott too busy to give the All Star MVP a contract wink? Am I stoned that they gave a 1st round pick for Reaves smile? Much better return than anybody Vegas traded like that Right Shooting D-man they basically gave for a 3rd rounder or last pick in the 2nd round which would be 3rd rounder factoring the added team of Vegas. Haha yet the Kings couldn't trade Greene instead buying him out or Dustin Brown but people can get a 1st round pick for Reaves wink. They even got Sundqvist so guess its a lock the Penguins going for 3rd Cup in a row wink.

They didn't really give a first. Just moved down 20 spots. The 31st overall would have been a second in last years draft... I think less people are flipping out about this if we take out the "First round pick" label on 31 and just say the Pens swapped fourth liners and 2nd round picks (which is essentially what they did).

For me it isn't just about the pick, Oskar Sundqvist might pan out as a player having 20 goals w/ 46 points in 63 AHL games having nice size at 6'3 etc. He probably is better than Ryan Reaves is right now... So even if the pick don't pan out he probably will more than Reaves w/ a chance to be at least an asset at NHL level. I think Blues got a better return on Ryan Reaves getting a quality player along with a shot to pick a better draft spot on a guy they might have eyed for a while. They probably did better on this deal than what Islanders got from Flames for Hamonic or least didn't give up anything with much upside for a two chances at a quality upside payout. If anything I think some think the Islanders did alright in the deal with Flames since a 1st round pick was involved when they didn't. Think they need to win now, not take chances on picks 2-3 or more years down road. Unless they sign Shattenkirk they took a few steps back from a Post SEason team.

Anyways don't just focus on the 1st round pick since Oskar Sundqvist might pan out to be a pretty decent NHL player. AT least better than Reaves with Kostin no slouch either wink. Blues fans should be happy about this if nothing else wink.

Pens management had soured a lot on Sundqvist. He was really unimpressive in his NHL time the last 2 years, and I guess they weren't thrilled with his work ethic. Rowney playing as well as he has and the Pens landing ZAR made Sundqvist less valuable to us.

For me it's not what they gave up. I just don't think Reave's is a good fit. We moved away from players that couldn't score 10 points in 80gms and who's main selling point was fighting. I'd gladly give up more to get a guy who can PK, blocked shots and had some production. Reaves will not play in the playoffs. He'll be sat for Wilson, Archibald, Aston-Reese, Sprong ... and anyone who might provide some dept scoring in addition to a 2 way game.

There is no heavy weight division. There's guys like Tom Wilson and Austin Watson who do fight, but mostly just bully you in an attempt to get you off your game ... but both those guys can play both sides of the puck and don't cost much more. I'd like to see them winning cups, not fights.

In Reaves' defense, he's not just a one-dimensional enforcer. He's a decent enough skater, and if you look at his fancy stats, he's a legitimately good defensive winger... the problem is that although he knows how to get the puck out of his own zone, he doesn't know what to do with it afterwards.

Pittsburgh never really panned out in this deal. let's just put it into perspective Lauzon isn't really that great of a piece. Reaves left after not doing much. Kostin hasn't panned out but still has some hope, and Sundqvist has been a great player for St.Louis.

As a Vegas fan, love me some Reavo, but for PIT, I don’t know what they were doing here
Reaves was a tough guy that I get you needed at the time, but goodness, that’s lot, Sundqvist has been solid in STL(and he has a ring) Kostin really hasn’t panned, I think he’ll make it but in a bottom 6 role,

And Zach Lauzon, I feel really bad, kid had to retire due to concussion symptoms that had been plaguing him the previous few years
