Kent goes for Dubois at Draft Day

Équipe: 2023-24 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 8 juin 2023
Publié: 8 juin 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Moving Dach to the wing again, I know many will say he's the centerman, but with the arrival of Dubois, we can play him to the wing and provide Suzuki with another puck drop option. Plus gives Belzile a chance to come up to the 4th line.

We can also switch Dach with Dubois and move Dubois to the wing if needed. So interchangeable players depending of the team they're facing.

I'm buying out Armia, it's too much to continue.

Mantha will bring in another pick, and WASH don't lose much by providing a higher round pick, and get Hoffman to play him when needed on power plays and will do better than Mantha for them at lower cost. You can completely remove him from the trade if needed, and buy-him out also if needed. I'd prefer Mantha on the fourth back in his hometown for the last year of his contract.

I take Smith if he's still available, else it would be Leonard if he's also still available. After I pick Augustine as a goaltender in the second round to get a good Goalie in the prospects. He's done very good in the USHL compared to his teamates in the same club.

The Jets won’t get that much for Dubois. Especially after him announcing he won’t sign a QO and would rather sit. Jets are in a tight spot.
I always questioned his character , even moreso now.

I'd rather have Armia on the 4th line than Mantha. The acquisition does not make sense, habs eat $3.5M for a 4th round pick just to bury Mantha on the 4th line?

Could we stop putting Barron in these. He’s not going anywhere. He’s right shot d who finished as the strongest defenceman after Matheson. Also, this is a massive overpayment for a player that said he isn’t re-signing.

He just wants the h*ll out of there. Like the rest of their core players... He indicated wanting to go to MTL since he was with the Jackets, but Jets traded for him thinking they could change his mind. Guess they bet wrong.. And Brisson talking for his client means they had many discussion on this before with the organisation.. Brisson isn't one for information getting out there when it's a touchy subject like this. I assume that Chev as been uncooperative to help the player go out and is probably asking way too much hence causing more harm than good.

When player wants out, you either play hard ball, or take something that'll help your team and let the player breathe. Jeff Petry said he wanted out, so they dealt him and Ryan Poehling to the Penguins for Mike Matheson and a 2023 4th round pick.

Some said Petry could've been traded for a 2nd rounder, at the time, no one saw Matheson as a top 4 Dman, so it was a bit underwhelming to see Petry go for a 4th.. But in the end, Habs got a good deal out of that trade in Matheson alone. Habs got rid of a headacke with Petry's wife wanting to go back to the USA, and they didn't wait to get a better deal. THey took a good one.

Same here, but Chev is playing hard ball, and will lose. Either Dubois gets traded, or he goes to arbitration has a deal put in front of him that he can take and suddently stuck with a one year contract he can't move, takes place on the Cap and doesn't offer him much in the end when he goes UFA next year and you just lose him, or refuse and Dubois goes UFA this year.

THis trade saves Chev's face, habs get Dubois for a reasonably elevated price considering the situaiton, but not in regular terms. Gorton can tell Chev "you owe us..." after this.

As indicated, could remove the 4th, replace for the higest of the third picks, and get Mantha out of WASH.

You don't see what Mantha can actually do if he is moved to a new city. Sometimes players elevate their game with a second chance. Dadonov is the perfect example... Mantha could bring in some much needed leadership on his home turf. Not all players suddenly cramp up like Drouin. Some change and play their best when given a new role. Media wise, it's a win for the Habs ..

Armia.. Good lord.. Can be the best, mostly is the worst. Some MTL media were ready to trade him out with a first pick just to give him up.

He got absolutely caved in tho. Harris was easily your second strongest dman, then Guhle, then Kovacevic tbh, and everyone else got CAVED

This deal you're making would have been like us trading Drouin (50% retained) for Monahan and a 4th last year... the actual deal was Monahan and a 1st for future considerations.

I'm all for giving guys a new chance in a new location, but this deal just isn't worth it (particularly when you aren't giving Mantha an actual chance since you have him slotted on the 4th line). It's a waste of a roster spot, real $$$, and cap space for what? PR aspects of getting a local player?

Hey, if Brisson calls Hugues and Dubois reallllly wants to have that Habs shirt on, the only Karma going his way will be that he'll be giving up dollars from other teams since Habs may will want to keep Suzuki they highest paid player on the active roster (Not counting Price here..).

The guy can finally give us the opportunity to have three quality centermen on the roster. Something we haven't seen in ages.

Way way too much to pay for PLD. Jets would take it and laugh all the way to the bank. And PLD would make same as Caufield and Suzuki. Add Gallagher and Anderson contracts
and that takes you to 2027-28 and Price LTIR ends in 2025-26. Hughes would be in cap hell just two years from now.

1. I don't know if you meant that Dubois would not make the same as Suzuki and Caufield.. Because I put him at the same salary as Caufield. Reason being, I'm targetting the more expensive contracts. Not the least. Dubois could be arouns 6.5M$ to 7.85M$/yr. I'm putting in the more expensive number.

2. 24-25 Habs have a cap space of 25M$ with a need to replace Mantha; Edmunson Pitlick and Belzile. THen sign Xhekaj and Montembault (let's assume both have great years).
- Let's say they keep Montembault for 5M$/yr for 5 years (considering he got a great year)
- If they keep Xhekaj from a good year he could potentially be around 3M$/yr (again... if he gets a great year...)
- You now need to replace a winger and a center. You take in two prospects like Owen and Roy (just as examples - Both covered until 26-27 and RFAs);
- Edmunsdon you may also replace by someon like Mailloux (Again.. Let's look at our developping prospects eveybody are getting exicted about).
- You basically just spent less than 11M$ and are covered at least until 26-27.

By that time you'll have a need to resign Slafkovsky (if the trend continues I don't see him making 10M$/yr, so lets say 4.5M$), Evans (let's say 3M$); Ghule (Could be around 7M$ if he can become what they hope he'll be) etc.. But by the time Ghule's contract is up, you have more space coming in and your rotation on the players you have are being replaced by less expensive depth player on the third and fourth lines.

That 25 to 43M$ cap space will be enough to cover all your major players, keep those you developed internally and bring up some AHLers who are ready tp play the game. In the menatime, you have trades and other LITRs that may happen..

I don't see any cap hell for the next 5 to 9 years for the Habs unless they sign players over 9M$/yr like Edmonton, Vegas and Colorado. By that time you have Gallagher and Anderson off the books, you still have those core players in Caufield, Suzuki and Dubois, may also have Ghule, Slafkovsky, the 2023 pick, and another one signed.

Hugues and Gorton have a good pulse on things right now. Having Caufiled under 8M$/yr is a good thing if he reaches full potential. From the Team we currently have under the belt, the only other big name that'll get a high paying contract could be Ghule.. Again with the CURRENT players we have.
