Wish the jets had spite, just leave him at home, without the 1 year contract would he not still be jets property longer?

Hes a FA in 2024 either way and the only thing theyd be doing is pissing off a Pat Brisson client. Probably the last agent you want to piss off.

Theyd lose him for nothing and have a super agent on your bad side.

Yup. He owes one more year, no matter what. He can't get out of that.

It wouldnt. Dubois can deny any trade he wanted by just not accepting the contract the team trading for him gives. No way a team trades for him without a long term deal in place beforehand. So the Habs could offer who they want because the only way Dubois doesnt become a Habs player is because a team is giving him 2-3 million more than his market value per year

This offer is simply to play nice with Chevy and not have him keep a grudge against Hughes. If Hughes wanted to, they could offer a 4th rounder in November before the RFA freeze and get it done.

Not sure, but if I were the Jets, and the trade offers were **** by the draft, I’d file for arbitration, take the 1 yr ruling and sit him all year if it came to it.

Pat Brisson is his agent. Thats his way out. No way any team is dumb enough to piss off a Pat Brisson client by sitting him for 2 years. And at that point, theyd find a way to terminate his contract and walk for free

2 years in his prime earning years, no chance, it’s a game of chicken and who blinks first, idle threat. Jets should start by canning his old man

Huh? He's an RFA, he owes one more year to Winnipeg or whatever team he is traded to. There is nothing he can do to get out of it.

He can sit one, two years or 10 years without a contract. When he comes back, he still owes a year.

It's not mtl or bust you know. Dubois would totally be willing to use another team as Leverage against the habs to get more money or force mtl to pay more to get him. A team like nyr, leafs, bruins, canes or avs could be realistically better options for Dubois that offer more via trade to get him and more cap on a long term deal (ie 9m vs what mtl would want at 7.5). Mtl still needs to have the best deal for the teams he'd sign (btw again not only mtl)

Dvorak, Kidney, FLA 1st stands. If he's only accepting a sign and trade situation he basically gets to pick his team. He's more concerned with his lifestyle off the rink and being with friends and family, I wonder where he would be the most comfortable... It was a fair deal to begin with, it's a fair deal now.

Actually, he would just file for arbitration himself forcing the Jets to either sign him for the year or walk away from the deal making him a UFA anyway. It's not like Brisson is an idiot, he would know what to do if the Jets tried that.

Yeah seems to be but mtl fans love knocking down the price any chance they can. What I wonder is if they have to sign Dubois like 6 years rather than 8 to get the aav under the Suzuki deal.

Right. That's why I don't know why everyone is flipping out. Nothing has changed. We've been working under the assumption that PLD wanted to be traded this summer all year.

The only difference is that it sounds like Brisson is willing to work with the Jets to find a suitable landing spot, not that Montreal was theonly landing spot m

It's actually the either 7 accrued seasons or 27 years of age whichever comes first. So you could sit him 2 seasons at most.

Even then if he felt like WPG were going in that direction he could just take his QO or go to arbitration to ensure he hits UFA in summer 2024.

Edit: looks like someone beat me to it.

Of course we do, we love a deal lol I'm not sure they'll have to do that though. I feel with the CC signing that the precedent has been set for salary expectance, I mean especially if that's where he really wants to be and feels he wishes to be a part of the Habs future. He'll sign for around the same as CC and Suzuki if he wants MTL to trade for him or we just simply won't, which is always possible.

Montreal has already stated with the Caufield deal that unless youre a superstar, you arent getting more than Suzuki. He knows Montreal will give him 7.5x8 with 7.75x8 being the most. If he wants more than hes free go somewhere else. He also really wants to play in MTL, so i imagine a team would have to overpay him at least 2m aav to secure him and at 9,5m, they can have him
