Honestly I don’t think Willander makes it to 17. He is the 3rd best defenseman in the draft behind Reinbacher and Simashev.

All signs point to the caps keeping the 8th and only trading Mantha and/or Kuzy for positive assets. Mesar had a terrible junior season btw, less than a ppg isn't good for a 1st rounder in their D+1.

Also caps draft size, we haven't drafted a player below 6' in the top two rounds ever since 2009. So 5'8" Benson probably isn't in the cards but he is from the WHL, which the caps have a love affair with. Maybe they do take him. But 5'8" (or 5'10" but I would believe the 5'8" more if you watch him play) isn't what the caps do usually.

Willander, Reinbacher, and ASP*

All of which will probably be gone @ 17 since RHD is such a premium position for many of these teams picking.

That could be very true I still think ASP is ahead of Willander and a lot of teams need a good young RHD, so it's possible Reinbacher, ASP and Willander all go before an LHD is drafted.

Pelikka’s size is going to hurt his draft ranking. Most teams want a defenseman with a bit more size and reach. 5’9” is really small for an NHL dman, he would be among the shortest with Spurgeon, Bryson etc…

ASP is 5'11. Small, but definitely big enough to not deter his talent. It definitely won't be Hutson situation 2.0

Ah, google search initially said 5’9. EP set the record straight thanks. Dan Boyle was 5’11 and he was damn good.

Still I have Reinbacher, Simashev and Willander ahead of ASP. Just my opinion.

I think teams will look for offense first, so imo Simashev goes after ASP, but other than that I agree with you

I agree and Yzerman likes big dmen that's why I don't see Detroit drafting even if they have a chance to. I also think Detroit needs to address their lack of scoring and won't take a dman with the 9th pick.

Simashev isn’t even the best left shot defensemen in his own country in the draft

Lol yeah, he is. But this is subjective. You are not wrong and I am not wrong and the world keeps on spinning.
