When the hiring manager asks me if I can do "x", I say "absolutely with enough determination and leeway"

That's true, but I don't think they just asked him on a whim. Guessing something in their scouting reports of him made them think he possibly could.

I feel like they ask every big winger expected to go early that question.

Definitely asked Gauthier and Kakko. I'd bet that Dvorsky and Carlsson both get the questions too (though at least it makes more sense for Carlsson)

I guess it makes them feel better on passing up on Cs ranked below them who often turn out to be more valuable.

Imo it's a way for someone to talk themselves into size > skill.

You see 6'2" Kakko or 6'4" Slaf and go "see! this dude can play C too! we dont need the small guy".

But who knows.

Before this thread... Not one person has ever suggested Slaf should be a center. We have Centers. We need a power forward winger with skill.

This conversation is weird

Devils decline instantly. Nothing that suggests barron will even be better than walsh this year. Walsh has elite AHL analytics and profile, Barron got caved in constantly in the NHL.

... if there isn't mutual interest then don't make the deal. Draft BPA.

Because they get a top 4 D in Barron (not as good as Nemec sure) but then they also get to draft 5th overall in which it is practically concensus that every player in this year's top 5 is better than the 1st pick from last year's draft. For you to not even mention the top 5 pick in this year's draft means you are overlooking this deal... the premise is (should be) that NJD likes a player at 5th overall more than Nemec (or as much as Nemec), getting Barron in the deal would thus make it a no brainer.

And when you say start over, you mean get a prospect one year younger? Most likely a forward that will develop faster than a D man anyways?

Barron isn't a top 4 dman. He's not even an upgrade over just playing Reilly Walsh next year

Oh that's interesting my very great and knowledgeable friend! Thank you so much for giving us poor slobs a little bit of your valuable time and attention. I have just heard that Justin Barron has heard your criticisms and has decided to retire from professional sports to start a new career pursuing his true passion: making pastries. I've heard the Walsh family will be frequent customers as well, so you see you did not even know how right you were!

Trully sir, it's been a pleasure reconnecting with you and sharing in your great wisdom. Are there any other deep and penetrating insights you'd like to share with us lucky few who get to share in them?

I think #5 + for Nemec is a very interesting idea and I'd want the Devils to heavily consider it.
But you're right in that Barron probably wouldn't fill a need for the Devils as Walsh would likely step into that 3RHD role for 2-3 years (basically, until Casey is ready to go).
If Barron was swapped for a similar level forward prospect like Kidney or Roy it'd probably be a yes on the deal for me.

Man, Walsh is just absolutely not getting a shot with this team. He's too small and Tom likes his dmen big and mobile.

I'm half convinced Casey was drafted as a trade chip.

I honestly have never heard it, except that I was surprised when I saw him win some faceoffs. Super happy with him evolving on the wing though. I agree he is not creative enough to be an offensive Center.

Meh, I'd rather keep the more immediate help from Nemec. Don't want to wait for Michkov and I'd rather keep Nemec over Smith I think

I'm not above mixing it up and rolling in the mud every now and then, but I may use it one day if it gets excessive. I imagine at one point he'll realize that absolutely no one cares what he thinks and get tired of his little game and move on.

Just so we're clear - dgibb10 knew what my reaction to his comments on a thread I started would be and decided to post what he did in hopes of in-sighting a reaction. It's a game cowards like to play online where they try and make themselves feel better about their lives by messing with others rather than having a respectful dialog. I'm sure his day to day life is pretty sad and he really needs this.
