I'm sorry, but you're about 2 more A grade assets from this being fair..
Marner is overpaid and a winger.

Petey is a center and legit a stud, making a decently fair contract. And even his next contract will be better than marners...

Who knows what Treliving will do, but I think he should give the core one more year. I think that's all they'll have anyway, because even if Matthews and Nylander and both willing to sign extensions, Toronto probably can't afford to keep both of them.

That's his MO.. Hang onto the wrong players for too long and lose them for nothing in the end while selling low on players he could have and should have kept around. If he trades any of the 4 it'll be Nylander the one he should keep.

I don't have a problem with losing a player for nothing if he gives you a chance to win the cup before he goes. It isn't really for nothing because you get back his cap space, which has value. I'd rather see Toronto hang onto Matthews and Nylander for one more year than trade them and weaken the team now. Calgary was a contending team with Gaudreau so I wouldn't have traded him. I would have even been ok with keeping Tkachuk for another year, though it probably made sense to trade him once Gaudreau left. Treliving made lemonade out of that lemon, but then he turned it sour by signing Huberdeau to a bad contract before he even put on the sweater. Fortunately he can't give Matthews and Nylander contracts that run until they're 38 no matter how much he'd like to.

I agree it's probably worth it for Toronto to hang onto both Matthews and Nylander I just believe if Treliving does trade one of the 4 it'll probably be Nylander. Marner is the one who should be traded but it'd have to happen real soon before his full NMC kicks in for the last 2 years of his contract. Treliving won't move that fast so he won't be able to trade Marner leaving Nylander and Matthews as the only options.

Gotta disagree with the rest though. gaudreau isn't a player you build a team around he's a soft contact adverse perimeter player you bring in (for the right price that is) to help an already contending team in need of more playmaking. IOW he's a complimentary player not a core player to build around. Tkachuk and Lindholm were the keys to that line last year not gaudreau he was just along for the ride collecting easy points for passing the puck to the guys doing all the hard work.

Agreed he got a good return for Matthew but blew it by overpaying Huberdeau about as badly as Dubass overpaid Marner.

LOL, thank your lucky stars for that. He would if he could!

Vancouver laughs and hangs up, they wouldn't deal Pettersson for anyone on TOR's roster.
