Extremely unlikely the Jets trade PLD for picks only.

The hurricanes will send players to the Jets if it's a sign-and-trade

That's a distinct possibility. The Jets will most likely trade PLD to a team where he is willing to extend to maximize return.

I can see him ring chasing... And the Hurricanes have the cap space to extended him while not losing other players next year

I mean I'd extend the term a couple of years and increase the payment to $8m and that seems about right

Except he isn't signing long term anywhere but Montreal.

PLD strikes me as a ring chaser and a ring chaser wouldn't sign a long-term deal in Montreal since they aren't going to be cup contender for a good 4-5 years. If he's a ring chaser then Carolina makes a lot of sense for both parties

I would encourage you to look at the actual quote that was given about his desire to play in Montreal someday… I think connecting the dots and stating he’s definitely signing there next year is a massive stretch. Troch and Nino said they wanted to stay in Carolina. Remember all the places Gaudreau was going before ending up in Columbus (which no one predicted). Money talks and an opportunity to win is about the only thing that would keep someone from taking the most money.

Or, the Canes could choose not to waste assets on PLD. He is the next big C mistake, just like Horvat.

I agree that he has said it was blown out of proportion but its not just his comments. It's a compilation of everything from his comments of it being a dream come true if Montreal drafted him, his actions and comments in Columbus, his showing up at the draft with the expectation of being traded to Montreal, his agents comments, everything has been building towards him going to Montreal. Now that being said he could just like anyone else sign somewhere else long term, I just don't see a team out there giving that much up for him with such a high risk of him not resigning with them.

I don't think he's a ring chaser at all.

I think wherever PLD ends up long term it'll be about lifestyle more then anything.

He has said the most important thing to him is winning a Stanley Cup. Montreal fans choose to say he was lying when he said that, because it doesn't suit their narrative and that the only thing that can be believed is an off handed comment his agent made and Montreal media exaggerated and twisted, because it suits their narrative.

I agree with you, there will likely be more than one contending team he is willing to extend with. Especially if Montreal wants to keep their salaries below Suzuki. Money talks.
