Description

According to Bob McKenzie, ANA will trade Theodore to LV in exchange for passing on Vatanen and Manson and taking on the final year of Stoner's 3.25M contract. This, along with the Despres buyout, frees up about $9M for the team. Players still required IMO:

1. Back-up GT with decent experience - Miller? (I prefer Kinkaid personally)
2. A true 3C - Bonino?
3. Top 6 forward - Palat/Miller? (that level of player will probably cost us Vatanen. I'm not sure it will happen because the D-corp is a nice mix of D-first guy paired with PMDs and moving Vatanen would change that)

If you think that's all it will take don't be surprised if more is added. If GMGM takes that deal he's an idiot. I have liked some moves but the Fleury on and this is mind boggling. If I'm Vegas I'll take Theodore and the 2018 1st and leave your team alone haha

What more can be added? You either take Stoner and Theodore, or you can take Stoner and a 1st round pick. Theodore is exempt, they must take a player in the draft whether they want him or are doing a favor for another team. You get a potential top 2 D-man in Theodore and a veteran D-man for one year in Stoner, that's a pretty good deal, considering they can go and flip Stoner for someone else or draft picks.

Theodore is a decent piece to lose, but I suspect that "the pledge" everyone had to agree to in order to deal with LV may have affected Vatanen's trade value. Also, this way we save a tonne of money (probably a requirement by the owners) and it doesn't really affect our team in the short-term.

I'm not super happy about it, but I understand why GMBM went this route.
