canes definitely say no here. we want to add to the long term roster not subtract from it (unless we are getting a big time power forward).

And ottawa doesn’t want a prospect projected to be 3rd line in 2 years, a late 1st and a 2nd

If Debrincat would stay around for at least a couple years, it would be worth Winnipeg trying to work out a deal based on Ehlers. But since he almost certainly wouldn't, there's not much incentive for Winnipeg to to that.

They may be in the same conversation, but I think Terry is the better player. Late bloomer to be sure, but on a team with a history bad goal differential, he was -8. On a team with playoff aspirations, Cat was -31.

Unless Cats scoring rebounds in a big way, his success was tied to bring on a line with Kane.

Frankly, even in the small sample size of this season, I think the majority of people have figured out that DeBrincat was having as much success as he did in Chicago due to playing with Kane. It was a good experiment for Ottawa, but they shot themselves in the foot. They would be lucky to get a return investment on what they paid to bring him in.

There shouldn’t be a GM in the league offering what Ottawa will want for DeBrincat. Worst case scenario, they force Ottawa to qualify him and he walks to a new team next season.
