You won't be able to get a third for Hayes if you don't retain salary. A contending team like the Hurricanes can't just bring in a 31 year old and pay him over $7M per year for multiple years. I like the idea of going out of our way to acquire a second round pick, but I'd just keep the other two at that point. Not a massive difference between a second and a third.
