He has an incredibly bright future as a part of the Top 4 and it would be stupid to give him up, along with Alex Newhook who has been somewhat disappointing but shows promise still. Truth is there are no replacements for Landeskog; no one scores as much as him while still being a great leader in the locker room. Besides adding Nylander worsens their depth problems because it adds a tremendous cap hit and makes the team even more top-heavy.

You're asking for a future 1st pairing defenseman under team control and 30-point ~$2mil 21-year-old forward that still has plenty of runway for a SINGLE rental year of Nylander. This trade basically just gives the Avs one more year of contention. I know throwing it all at one more year sounds great to Leafs fans, but not to the Avs. Byrum keeps the window open much, much longer.
