winning in the 2nd round and getting swept in the 3rd isnt playoff success, much like winning a round and losing in the 2nd, same outcome at the end of the day

Whatever you have to tell yourself at the end of the day. I’d be defensive as a TOR fan too.

literal definition of success is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose" if their aim was make it to the 3rd round and win zero games I guess its playoff success for the canes

Bud - you just got swept 😂. Don’t act like you support the 70’s habs or something.
Not an excuse but Atlantic is also clearly the tougher division; for at least last 5 years the Atlantic is sending the team to the finals.

Seems like they’re building on consistent success though, right? Isn’t that the point? Finding the right mix of players by trial and error and then unfortunately also losing, til you finally have that right mix?

I’ll take the bet the Canes are on that right path over the Leafs. Trading away 2 integral pieces of their team for a soft winger who disappears come playoff time, we’ll that’s just stupid.

For the past 5 years at least, you have literally lost to the team that beat us, or you lost to the team that lost to the team that beat us. Talk about glass houses. You can always start hanging banners for series wins 😂

are they really though? they just got swept in the conference finals, got swept in the conference finals, seems to me theyre stuck like the leafs,

Superstar 1C Aho .92 playoff ppg
Overpaid Soft Marner who disappears in the playoffs- .94 playoff ppg

There are a lot of crazy comments from fans on this site every year; and leaf nation owns it’s fair share (mostly because we’re the most popular team = some extreme opinions at times) but Canes seem to be this year’s Canuck’s fans. Holy delusional - I had one tell me yesterday they are one elite scorer away from winning the cup 😂. Given there are - what … 20 elite scores in the league - pretty hard to obtain. They seem to think they can pry Willy or Mitch or even Matty from us (a way bigger market btw) for picks & prospects; like I said - delusional

And who else does Aho have to help him? Does he have a Nylander or Matthews on his line? Seems to me he’s doing more with less and still making it further in the playoffs.

And you’ve still not given any compelling argument for justifying Aho for Marner 1-1, much less the ridiculous OP proposal.

now aho doesnt have help I see. Marner is better offensively, defensively, and also better in the playoffs as I stated above.

Marner is a better player than Aho, other people can dispute that if they want but they're dumb.

However the canes need Aho more than they need Marner (more specifically they need a 1C more than they need a top line winger), both this statement and the above statement can be true, and thus why an Aho-Marner trade doesn't make sense for the canes.

Nope, you’re subjective opinion is not going to change mine. I’ll take the 1C who’s the better goal scorer, something the Canes need more than a soft, overpaid winger with feel good metrics

23g in 63 playoff games just slightly better than only 10 in 50

well he got nominated for the selke so other people seem to agree, Aho has goal scoring, Ill give him that. everything else is marner, especially in the playoffs, . but if hes worse than soft overpaid marner in the playoffs, than sheesh thats pretty bad

In the playoffs and regular season for that matter, for CAR goal scoring of Aho >>> whatever perceived advantages of Marner has as a player.
