That contract right there is the reason why OTT isn't going to get what they want for Debrincat. He shouldn't be the highest paid player on any team.

We're not trading a 6'8" Soderblom for a 5'8" DeBrincat after both Lalonde and Yzerman said that our top 12 forwards need to get bigger and stronger. And besides Ottawa would pass on this trade for Cat.

Don't think Wings should consider Soderblom on the table for this, though I say that about a lot of our guys. If you're curious on his offensive ceiling, he was 10th in the SHL for goals and #1 for U22, and they're beauts too.

Yeah I'd love to get Cat or Connor or Konecny or Keller or whoever. But honestly all those guys would cost serious assets most likely. Keller is the only one of the 4 I'd give up a prospect of that tier to get (though i also think he'd be the most expensive of the 4 anyway)

As a result, I doubt we see the Wings making a big splash unless the deal ends up looking really good

I'm pretty sure the window just opened and you have nico and Hughes signed to a combined 15M (mcdavid and Mathews will each be making that soon) for a looooong time. I agree your goaltending definitely needs to be upgraded but uh yeah you still have Foote, sillinger, Hughes and nemec who are all super close to ready ontop of your young core. Pretty sure the metro is also going down hill while the devil's are projecting up.

Schmid is promising, Vanecek was alright. They were miles better than what we had last year…it is hard to overstate how terrible our goaltending was then (8 of them).
