I'd love Toews and the Avs cap situation definitely makes him attainable. I'm just wondering if you make that trade you're only saving like 2mil so who replaces Guentzel?

We could potentially trade the 1st for a replacement. 2 of Necas, Ehlers, Lafreniere, Bertuzzi, Kuznestov would drastically help the top 6. I would even consider getting Kuznestov for 2C and having Crosby play on a line with Malkin. I think that would be awesome to see. Just trying to get creative with all these ideas.

True - they could. Would it drastically help the top 6? I assume you're saying pick 2 of those guys to replace Guentzel and Zucker? I guess it depends on which of those 2 you get. It would be tough to get 2 of them as well considering only 1 is a UFA, no?

Malkin and Crosby would be awesome to see. I guess center to wing transition wouldn't be that difficult for Malkin? Not sure I could stand to see Kuznetsov to that stupid bird celebration though lol

Bird celebration definitely brings back some bad memories, but Kuznestov is super super fast. Could fit in really well. And I meant more an upgrade over what we have now, assuming Zucker is gone. I think Bertuzzi for example maybe wouldn't make the bottom 6 significantly better than it was, but would bring a new dynamic to the group, which is I guess what I should've said.

Ohhh..... yeah probably an upgrade over what is currently signed now - which would be what Guentzel/Nylander? I thought we were comparing it to last season, my fault.

Wait Bertuzzi for the bottom 6? I thought you said top? You lost me again lol. Sometimes these convos are tough.

All good lol. I'd take Bertuzzi for sure - although probably not at the price people on these forums think he's going for. I think he's fairly similar to Zucker. I agree it wouldn't be a significant upgrade - more just like a change of scenery type a deal. Zucker has age and injury worries too we need to think about.

If we take your scenario though and trade Guentzel for Toews and then can trade for Ehlers and sign Bertuzzi - I think you would be able to keep the top 6 production while also making the defense way better.

Exactly, agree with all of this. Watching the press conference, it sounds like Dubas is really going to focus on improving the defense too.

There's definitely some options. I know I've said this 100 times on here so probably mentioned it to you before. I'm fine with a defensive upgrade as long as they address forward depth first. I would much rather upgrade the third line and run Smith/POJ down the left side than sign a guy like Graves and have to watch Carter and Granlund on the 3rd line.

I think both are a must, and it sounds like Dubas is intent on upgrading both, so I'm really hopeful
