Idea for a blockbuster with OTT from csick

Description
*my initial thought is that OTT would not want to move on from DeBrincat as they just acquired him and paid a hefty price… while pettersson and Rakell have great value as they have good contracts, they are older than the OTT players and I think PIT would have to give up another mid-high level asset such as a 2nd, Poulin, Blomqvist, or one of POJ/SMITH

My purpose with this post was just to see what the team would like if they tried to fit in 2 more big contracts

@csick ngl it’s hard to do anything else if pit brings in that much $ it would be less big moves and more around the fringe, low cost, bounce back moves…

I don't think you watch the nhl if you think husso contract is bad. Wings pass all day and it will take #14 with nothing coming back to get rid of petry

Canucks retain 1.5 for 3 years and get nothing back? Heck Garlabd at 3 mil a year is a steal and would surely have quite a lot of value

I think the Pens would have a really hard time improving the rest of the roster with the added cap hits from that blockbuster. DeBrincat and Chabot are better than Pettersson and Rakell, but the Pens already were top heavy and needed more depth. It's not impossible with this trade, but it gives the Pens much thinner margins. Dunn and Debrincat probably get more money by at least $1M each anyway.
I doubt we can/will LTIRetire Carter also, so that's another cap roadblock.

Not a fan of the RHD depth without Petry. I know Schenn had a great playoffs, but his regular season was forgettable at best IMO, and I don't really even want him on the 3rd pair. If Letang is out for a while - or more likely, when - who's moving up to the first pair? I don't trust any of the options there.

I doubt Seattle accepts, Dunn was their #1 Defenseman this season and probably collects himself a handful of points in the Norris vote. I can't see them selling anytime soon, and Dunn could easily get a better return if they were.

    ??? Detroit does this why?

    I'd consider Petry + 2nd for FC.

Never knew DET loved Husso… lol

    I’ll do Petry, 2nd for a 5th
(bc you’ll be able to flip Petry retained at next next years deadline if DET is not in contention… )

He certainly isn't as bad as his stats portray him as. He was one of the better goalies before **** hit the fan.
Not to mention, better than any goalie that'd be hitting the market.

Via MoneyPuck, Husso's GSAx was -14.7 in the regular season - 102nd out of all 107 goalies to play a game. His GSAx/60 is better, but still not great, and below the likes of James Reimer, Dave Rittich, and Petr Mrazek. Is Husso a better goalie than those stats imply? Yes. But it's still telling that they were that bad.

And you don't watch the NHL if you think it costs that much to move Petry. Petry was an actually good 2nd pairing defenseman this season, who I'd take over every blueliner in Detroit other than Mo right now. He's definitely overpaid and no one's trying to say otherwise, but the 14OA to move him is outright insulting.

Canucks decline. We aren't retaining on Garland and giving him away for nothing. With that kind of retention we would want a 2nd at minimum.

He was a full time LW in ANA from what I hear before he came to PIT and we moved him to RW

Yeah Detroit isn't trading our starting goalie. He was unreal to start the season but a poor defense and large work load didn't help. He would cost more than your second next year for us to trade him since we wouldn't have a goalie, we still need a back to as it is.

Seattle politely declines your trade offer. Vince Dunn isn't getting moved, he's their top defenseman coming off a breakout season for a contending team and is primed for a long-term extension that will easily top $4.75M per year. Replacing what he provides for the Kraken would be borderline impossible. For a team looking to win, downgrading from Dunn to POJ in exchange for a couple of pieces who won't help the team win for a couple of years at least isn't worth it.
