Trying to figure this out. Franky is a great guy and he's pulled off some big moments in Colorado, but honestly, I feel like we have a problem. He kinda had a lackluster season this year and struggled with injuries for half the season once again. This isn't the first time this has happened with him either. He's had a couple seasons like this in recent memory (not including last year). A few years ago, he was out for an entire season! This problem was talked about on the Locked On Avs Pod, and I just wanna know what y'all think.

Why? Francouz is fine as a backup when healthy, he hovers around 0 GSAx if not slightly better

Staying healthy is the only concern but Georgiev showed he can take a large workload so Francouz really only needs to play around 20 games

Ik, but we can't expect Georgie to do that every year. There are healthier and cheaper backup options out there that are just as good if not better

Why not roll with Franky till Justus Annunen is ready for a backup role

I was really hoping we could have signed Erik Portillo as a college FA this past year to give us a "goalie of the future" in the pipeline.

Frankie is good for one more year but his $2 mil AAV for a backup that only gets 16 starts isn't good value. If he was really a 1B (20-30 starts) then it would be a great deal. His injury history being the main detraction from his success.

If we could acquire someone as I would feel better about them taking over the backup spot in 2024-25 as Annunen is still young but the only guy we have in the pipeline (Trent Miner seems far away from the NHL).

Frankie is good enough and still decent value. There's no trade value, so what's the point in worrying about him with all the other needs the Avs have for next year?
