This is not a new idea, and the Blues obviously still pass. ALL Marner to STL ideas, new or tired, are a hard pass.

I think in this particular instance Doug Armstrong laughs at stealing the new GM’s lunch money because he was able to get out from one of the worst contracts in the league in Parayko and Schenn who’s been solid but has too much term and will start aging terrible for 2 years of a top 5 winger that he could then also flip for one of the biggest hauls in history

2 things that can't be used in a realistic way. Schenn is a 2C and Parayko is a shutdown defenceman. Both of those statements are way off base. Schenn is a massively overpriced aging 3C and Parayko is a good 2nd pair defenceman.

Uhh no. "One of the worst contracts in the league" ... you guys have no clue. And the Blues are not blasting their salary scale to oblivion for two years of a guy at the last position they need. They do this idiocy and then they need to go out and replace Schenn and Parayko with no cap to do so. This is yet another Maple Leafs fan pipe dream (which for some bizarre reason is coming from a Pens fan this time). Zero chance, dude.

Heh.

Marner last season = 3.5 P/60 for 10.9M
Schenn last season = 3.2 P/60 for 6.5M

Now, remind me again, who's overpaid?

this isn’t a pipe dream, this is a nightmare, Parayko has a lot of off-ice qualities that make him attractive with his leadership and cup pedigree, but basically every analytics model has him as a below average defender and skater, the eye test also shows his speed just isn’t there to be a 25+ minute guy he’s getting paid to be, and Schenn is a solid 3c that should realistically be making about 4.5-6

Marner last season = Selke finalist, under 27, best pure playmaker in the league behind McDavid
Schenn last season = Physical, and that’s all folks

Dude. Parayko is not only a CLEAR plus skater, he's a plus skater at 6-6. And by what measure exactly is a Schenn a 3C. He played 2C almost exclusively last season. This stuff proves you do not watch the Blues AT ALL.

But please, by all means, continue favoring us with your expert scouting report on Blues players. Tell us how Robert Thomas is nothing more than a 2RW next. tears of joy

Physical, and that's all! More expert scouting!

Geez, imagine thinking McDavid is the best pure playmaker in the league, or even a pure playmaker at all. WOOF.

He was playing 2c out necessity, not because that’s his most impactful role, if O’Reilly didn’t break his foot he would have been the 3c for all but 20 or so games behind Rob Thomas and ROR but please do say that he’s a worthwhile 2c. And Parayko doesn’t have the same hops he did when the Blues won the cup, he’s not a top pairing calibre guy anymore, whether it’s injuries or age because of his massive frame, but he’s a 2nd pair guy at best now

St Louis isn't trading Brayden Schenn, And Colton Parayko will only waive his full NTC for Edmonton to be near home.

No blues would need a RD replacement coming back
How about Marner and Lily for Faulk and schenn

I wouldn’t trade Marner for anyone on the Blues outside of Robert Thomas and Kyrou, and the Blues would have no reason to trade either of them, so there’s no scenario a trade makes sense, I’m just saying from the Blues perspective they’d jump at it because they could get off of 2 albatross contracts for a top 20 player in the league

Dude, you don't understand what you're on about. Neither of those players is an albatross contract, and the Blues are NOT interested in an 11M winger in the slightest. Parayko has NOT slowed down. I'd love for you to find me all these 3Cs who play 18:30 per night and consistently put up 25+g, 65-70p rates every season. O'Reilly got bumped below Schenn to 3C for a good while, which is something one would not know if they never watched the Blues. Ahem.

I will give you one thing: unless they want to move Tavares to the wing, Schenn would definitely currently be 3C on the Leafs... accent on currently. squinty smile

I really hope Berube stops using Parayko in the single worst usage in the entire league so these god awful takes about his strengths and weaknesses stop.

Parayko is a fantastic skater. He’s also got a very good defensive stick. He’s not a great first passer. He’s not entirely too physical but at times will be.

You’d an argue what you want about a top pair guy or 2nd pair guy. But given he’s the only defenseman in the league playing 20 minutes a night 5v5 with under 40% Offensive zone starts because the rest of the blues defense can literally not play defense most of the time, he’s hemmed in a lot.

And his partner has his head in the clouds 75% of the time, too. Give him a proper partner and Parayko will be more than fine.
