Campbell is definitely a cap dump but it shouldn't cost that much to get rid of him with nothing coming back. I would also think Chicago, San Jose, Arizona, etc would be on his no-trade list.

Campbell would cost a first to move. Nothing more than that. No need to give up Holloway. At this point it makes more sense to keep Campbell in hopes that he bounces back so that his price to move will go down.

Is this a troll post? Or at the least an aggravation screech? Surely the Campbell dump is excessive by at least Holloway and the third, and probably by including Yamamoto, too, and Cody Ceci doesn't have to be sold at a loss. As the Anaheim GM, I'd give you a fourth for him and think I was getting a good deal.

You need to keep those high draft picks. I don't think that you need to pay a first to dump Campbell at all.

Problem with Campbell is that he's so erratic - no team that isn't on his no-trade list would want him at that price and term. I mean, he could ask for a trade and say, "Send me wherever; I want to play" which is maybe the hope if you put him into a backup role.

You may be able to dump Campbell for less, but not to CHI. I have a hard time even accepting the trade as it currently stands, let alone taking pieces out of it.

It's an easy no from Chicago. You guys may see it as an overpay but it makes absolutely no sense from Chicago's perspective. It would take a massive overpay to even consider taking on that contract.

Shouldn't Chicago be far more concerned with adding quality pieces than taking on the Campbell contract? Adding a guy like Broberg or Holloway would be a big improvement and totally worth it since Chicago won't be a cap team for quite some time. Plus, they can always flip Campbell at some point for more assets to a team desperate for a goalie (those teams are always out there, even if you have to retain). If EDM paid CHI a 1st and either Broberg or Holloway to take Campbell, you should definitely take it.

A $5M cap hit for 4 years with $19.5M in actual salary owed over that period, and we don't even need goaltending. Soderblom will need NHL ice time backing up Mrazek next season, and Commesso and Stauber need their ice time in the AHL. This is a pure cap dump on a gigantic bust of a contract that we have no roster space for, and that is not enough to pay for it.

I guess I could be wrong... But I doubt that is enough.

Flipping a crap goalie isn't easy. If he's a cap dump now, he'll be a cap dump later as well. The Hawks just recently got themselves out of cap hell and moves like this would put them straight on the path to getting themselves back into it. Yamamoto, Holloway, and the 1st are really nice compensation for taking on that contract but it blocks one of the kids from getting NHL experience and handcuffs them moving forward.

Does Chicago have enough promising youngsters that are better than someone like Broberg or Holloway? My read is that they don't have much in the system but maybe ya'll are high on them.

This is probably close to what it will cost to move that awful Campbell contract. I think CHI considers this pretty strongly, and dumps him on LTIR or something.

EDM is in a hard position right now because obviously they need that cap space to hurry up and try to do something with McD and Draisaitl's prime years - so other teams really have them over a barrel when it comes to clearing Campbell off the books.

We have more than enough LHD in our system, some of which are or will be better than Broberg, regardless we don't need more LHD. We have a pipeline that is pretty darn good, Wheeler just ranked CHI's at 5th place, and it is only gonna get better with all the picks we have in the coming draft as well as 2024 and 2025. Not that I wouldn't like Holloway or Broberg, but, until further notice, I struggle to value them high enough to pay for that cap dump. It may or may not be close, but it definitely isn't a no brainer.

You can't just "dump players on LTIR", especially not for 4 years, they need to be hurt. We can't buy him out either, the savings aren't enough and we would be saddled with a buyout cap hit for the next 8 years. If this was like 2 or 3 years, it might be a lot more doable. But, taking 4 years at a $5m cap hit and $19.5M in salary is a gigantic cap dump, to say the least.
