Détails additionnels:
Leafs do need to add beyond Nylander and Brodie. Lacking a 2nd (which I would have done here), another young forward in Hirvonen hopefully does it.

Nylander for Pulock is close to a wash (marginally favours the Leafs)

Wahlstrom for Brodie where each player replaces the main piece is favoring the Leafs due to contract control.

Hence the add of Hirvonen..... which may or not he enough.
NYI
  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Hirvonen, Roni
  3. Nylander, William
Détails additionnels:
Nylander signs an extension with the Isles or this falls apart on the spot.

Isle pick up a younger forward to go with Barzal and Horvat who can definitely produce, moving from a position of strength.

Nobody should be trading anything of value for Formention

Pulock still has 7 years of term and Nylander has 1. Whether he were to sign an extension with a new team or not is irrelevant to the trade value. Islanders decline easily

Sorry, Pulock and is seven year term is worth a lot more than one year of Nylander. More fantasy extension. Leafs have have at least eight UFAs on their team that they didn't have to be "pay to acquire". but somehow entitled Leaf fans think other teams should pay for their upcoming UFAs.

By stating Pulock has 7 years left o Nylanders 1 makes the extension completely relevant.

Obviously without the extension the Isles pass. Obviously.

But a Pulock.with 7 years left for a Nylander with say 8 years isn't ballpark?

I suggest the Isles see their window as now (otherwise you don't pick up Horvat) and the bulk of that forward core is aging....

I don't think deal would be that far outside of possibilities.

Islanders simply don't have the cap room for that.

No you don't get it. NYI would be the team signing Nylander to the extension, just like they did with Horvat. Toronto has zero say in what they do after a trade is made. Thus Nylander's value is of a rental maximum. Nothing more.

Wouldn't be the first time we would see a sign and trade. Horvat essentially?

Frankly, I would move Marner over Nylander, but in terms of contracts in this scenario it has to be Nylander.

Further, I don't see this as another team "paying" for a pending UFA. The Leafs have the ability to resign Nylander. So given this, it does become more of a hockey deal.

This really boils down to how the Isles value Wahlstrom (which I know they don't see him as a career 3rd liner).....

Ummmm.... it has been done before where the team being dealt with is given permission to talk extension to a deal. Certainly not unheard of.

I fully understand taking on Nylander risking him walking is a no fly zone.

No. The extension is worked out prior.to the deal.

They do if they move Bailey. Which I have to think they do.

That specifically has happened, giving permission to talk to a pending UFA prior to a trade does not raise their trade value though. They are still traded with only 1 year of term, the selling team has no grounds to extort the buyer for a contract that player has not signed. The selling team can refuse to let the buyer talk to the pending UFA prior to a trade (like Vancouver literally did with Horvat this year) but that's literally it. And sign conditional re-signs are now against the rules there is nothing the seller can do

I am.pretty sure Tkachuk had his extension worked out with Florida prior to that deal..... maybe I am wrong. But given the return, it smacks of the verbal agreement in place prior to the deal happening.

Otherwise, I would think that trade looks more Huberdeau for Tkachuk straight up. Risk for risk.

Granted, both Weegar and Hunerdeau were pending UFAs, but, I would think the Cats knew what they were doing moving both players to make room for that contract.

Kind of where I got the idea from. Difference maybe Pulock is signed sealed and delivered, but if such a deal was verbally agreed upon, the value isn't far off.

Now, if it against the rules, then, no. No way the Isles take on that risk.

Tkachuk is not remotely similar. The rules implemented during the covid lockout state that you must have a players rights prior to the trade deadline of the final year of their contract to sign them to an 8 year deal. This rule was brought in to prevent teams from trading teams from trading players rights in the offseason before free agency (ie. the Kevin Hayes trade to Philly). Because of this rule though Calgary was the only team in the league that could sign Tkachuk to an 8 year deal and Florida wanted to sign him to an 8 year deal to lower the AAV. So Calgary signed Tkachuk to an 8 year deal and immediately traded him to the Panthers. This is also why Fiala was only signed to a 7 year deal after being traded to the Kings.

The difference here is that Nylander's final TDL before his contract ends has not happened yet and thus if traded prior the buying team is perfectly capable of signing him to an 8 year deal. Therefore there is zero incentive for the buying team to pay extra when they can just trade for him as a rental then sign him to an extension after the trade is complete
