Realistically the only way Columbus would do it is if it’s 3rd OA+ for Pettersson or Hughes, which the Canucks won’t do

Could be. Might have to move up in a series of trades if it were even possible.

laugh laugh JT Miller and Rathbone the 11th overall pick and a 3rd round pick doesn't move you up 8 spots in a deep draft. You'd need to add one of Quinn Hughes or Elias Pettersson at the very least.

Why does everyone think that ANY draft pick is worth that much? Even Bedard could be a bust. Very few draft picks are even worth an NHL journeyman.
Moving up 8 spots is only worth a prospect and a first.
Taking a pick for a player is like the bank accepting a lottery ticket as collateral for a loan.

Reverse the situations. How are you selling trading out of the top 10 to your angry, desperate fanbase who just suffered through the worst season in your team’s history and then lost the draft lottery to an organization who won three Cups since 2010 and stripped it down to the studs AND barely got a slap on the wrist for covering up sexual assault of a player by a staff member who later went on to sexually assault a minor??? Vancouver would riot. There are fewer Blue Jackets fans than Canucks fans, but the response would be just as vitriolic.

There are nine other teams OP could’ve proposed trading with but they chose probably the least likely to say yes.

Deep draft would make it easier to move up in theory. Once you start talking those names though they're worth more alone than the 3rd pick so it's not a moving up situation.

Players drafted in the top 3 rarely bust. It's usually not living up to the hype or not living up to their draft position. Yes, Carlsson could bust but he could be the 2nd best player in his draft class. CBJ biggest need is a #1C and the draft is really the only place to get a #1C. Currently Columbus has Jenner is their #1C with Roslovic as their #2C and with the moves they made in the offseason Carlsson fits in almost perfectly. That's why people keep posting that Pettersson would have to be part of a trade involving #3OA pick. Now Vancouver isn't going to trade Pettersson but that means they aren't getting Carlsson. Either way Columbus is getting a #1C this offseason.
