Seriously? We take downgrades on both players, massively on Vrana/Nylander AND retain 4M. The Blues want to clear Krug's cap, sure, but this is highway robbery.

The only difference is take out the 1sts, add 1 mil retained, and swap Pickering for POJ. Is the POJ Pickering swap where the robbery occurred? I'm confused at what your saying it might be my misunderstanding. Obviously Vrana is better than Nylander, but in your deal it was just the 1st plus Pickering correct? Whole idea is you guys offloading Krug evens it out. Surely he has negative value

No, Krug should not have negative value. The problem with him is he will only waive for certain places. And yes, adding 4M in retention (locking up a retention spot for four years in the process) and switching Pickering to POJ makes a big difference. Tossing in a contract/player who isn't wanted adds the cherry on top. There could conceivably be a deal made with retention on Krug, but this isn't it. The variations are limited because the Pens don't have all that many things that would interest the Blues and the Pens won't want to shed any more draft picks, so adding Vrana complicates the matter.

I've seen the Guentzel idea elsewhere and whilst I don't dislike it I still feel if the Avs move one of their D then they have to address the 2C issue first.
