No to Caps and NYR deals. Way too much for Lafreniere. Canucks don't need another winger. Canucks need a third line center but not at $7.8M/yr. They do need an RHD but I doubt that Schenn or Dermott. will be back.

I think the caps pass. doesn't get them any significant cap relief, they give up future assets, and significantly lower their ceiling.

Why trade the sink for Laffy. If you want him so bad, give him a big RFA deal. You'd lose less.

Caps decline. I kuznetsov is worth more than Boeser and Rathbone doesn’t do much for us.

I think it depends on how badly they need to move Kuznetsov. If they think they can hold on to him longer then I could understand.

I think the frustration is definitely with his on-ice play and not his off-ice attitude -- he's not a "locker room cancer" and from every reporting is extremely well liked in the room. because of that I think that they won't just make a change to make a change, it needs to actually have some tangible on-ice reasoning to it. boeser is a fine player -- a career .8ppg guy is nothing to scoff at despite having subpar play-driving impacts (and while not quite as bad as kuzy, some pretty horrendous defensive impacts). He's not and has never been more than that in his career. Kuzy no doubt had the worse year last year, but has proven in the past he can be legitimately great. For a team that is lacking game breaking offensive talent beyond Ovi and Carlson, they need great players and great scorers, not just good ones. kuzy still has that ceiling, i don't think boeser does. add in that they basically make the same money for the next two years and that in this trade you have the caps moving an extra pick, i just don't think it makes any sense for them.

I agree with everything you said and that's the only reason why the trade would make any sense for Vancouver as well. Kuznetsov is a greater risk to take on because there's no guarantee that Kuznetsov can turn it around in Vancouver. It makes more sense to bet on Boeser given he's home grown and due for a bounce back. The only reason the Canucks would do this is if they somehow had some assurance that Kuznetsov would work hard and play as well as he possibly could because otherwise Boeser is better.

It also depends on how badly the Capitals want/need to move Kuznetsov. The Canucks have no reason to trade Boeser anymore unless it makes the team better.

I think Vancouver is one of the few teams that makes sense for Kuznetsov because they have a strong Russian presence and they could run Pettersson-Miller-Kuznetsov down the middle pretty effectively. They also have as asset with a similar cap hit the Capitals would likely be interested in with Boeser. I think the opportunity to make a hockey trade is there if both teams can agree to one.
