Do you honestly think Boston is going to hand Buffalo these players?

I think this is a lot closer to fair than you're getting credit for.

Rosen is a top prospect, that first is unprotected with no guarantee that the Sabres make the playoffs, and UPL's upside is just as high as Swayman's imo, albeit Swayman having a bit more NHL readiness. I don't see Swayman in Boston long term, but Carlo would probably require a lot to pry out.

Yep, also figured The cap situation makes it more possible. Carlo being under contract at a good AAV is why might Boston would probably trade someone else to make room but I like how this deal fits Buffalo’s needs and under Kevyn Adams’ criteria for building for the future.

Straight trade value isn't everything. Context counts, often just as much. I cannot imagine Boston will rush to solve Buffalo's main problems for them (which, it must be said, presumably would lower that 1st way down). There's all sorts of other teams out there who would gladly pay well for those players.

Lots of teams ready to make a move like this might not have the near $8M that Buffalo has tbh

Nor the prospects that they are ready to hand over. BUF currently has 5 former 1st rounders not even on the team, and 3 2nd rounders. BUF is loaded with both cap space and prospects.

You'd get more for those guys if you traded them separately.

Cannot imagine Boston trades either, let alone both, to buffalo

I get the value and it's pretty close but Boston would never do it in division and I'd they move Carlo it's to get cash to resign their guys like swayman.

Yeah but what does Boston do next season? That will depend on if Boston wins the cup. They also set a record for most points in a season with 135 and that record stood for 46 years. They probably lose a couple players but that won't put them out of contention.

That doesn’t get you 1 of them. Lol.

Not trading either to begin with. No interest in Rosen, does not play center. No interest in UPL.

It is. Not trading either of them unless a potential #1 center coming back. No interest at all in Rosen or UPL. Zero.

RD is the shallowest position in the org. Carlo goes nowhere. Ullmark is the goalie move if any.

And neither guy gets traded. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Especially for unwanted, unneeded assets.

I mean, they could always turn around and trade Rosen + unprotected BUF 1st for a 1C.

Or they could just trade assets they have in a package for a 1C. Makes more sense right? “Make this trade and then flip them for what you want” are very infrequent for a reason. A 3 team deal would make more sense.

But realistically what 1C is available, that isn’t old as 💩, bad contract, rental, has issues?

My statement was “potential” #1, meaning a prospect. I’m don’t think they are looking for someone to plug in immediately. That kind of asset (and one that makes sense) is just not available.

I expect Bergy comes back for 1 more year. Zacha takes C2 roll. And guys like Merkulov, Poitras, Harrisson, and a acquired asset (Pinelli from LA maybe) get another year of development. Merk will likely make the big club but play wing for a year.

Great post @Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan no one does it better than you.
Boston fans will cry foul but they will have serious cap issues next year with the bonus carry over and Pastrnak's raise.
Sure Carlo is on nice contract, but what will Swayman's contract be?
They or others may be cap casualties.
2023 first and Mittelstaft over Rosen could be the difference to change even the staunchest Bruin fan.
Casey with Pasternak and Hall as his wingers could be a very good line.

Does it get the convo started, what if it was changed to Ostlund. He’s a good C prospect. Buffalo has pieces that can help Boston, just like you have some that could help us. Don't think this trade is that far off, especially with Cap issues. Hell I would just sign Clifton and not give you guys anything. But It's not like they haven't traded together before.
