That's a REALLY bad trade for VAN, trading a PPG player and Boeser with 50% retained for a fringe Dman and 2 1sts? That's not good enough

Yeah Miller isn’t getting traded for that, let alone with retention AND Boeser.

A team that wants to compete and cheap owner retaining over $6M? That's never gonna happen, retaining that much money for 2 years is crippling

Well they shouldn't be trying to compete and can't really with the terrible contracts they have

The only terrible contracts they have are OEL (who may end up LTIRetiring) and Myers (1 year left)

Miller and Boeser don’t have great contracts, but they aren’t that bad

What is Buffalo getting out of this? We trade a 30 goal guy with retention for what? It should be a 2nd or a 3rd and prospect

Miller is a fine contract for 2 - 3 more years. Then it becomes a bad contract for 1 - 2 years. Then it becomes a HORRIBLE contract for 2 - 4 years. Right in time for Petterson and Hughes to be drug down by it and request trades.

Boeser is a bad contract. Not terrible but he is extremely 1 dimensional and streaky.

Fans think differently than owners. Many outsiders are still living in the world that Miller is awful. But large contracts for aging players that are still performing are largely disregarded unless they are impossible to fit into the system financially.

Regardless, both sides of this deal know that there is no haste to move on from Miller anymore and he won't be moved in a realistic world.

50% retained on Boeser for two years and Myers for 1 year and Miller for that garbage. DeSmith is trash Rutta has very little value 2 late 1st and Pierre Oliver-Joseph the trade is pretty lame.

Well we certainly aren't going to give him away for free. People overreact too much to player's ups and downs. He's a solid 3rd line goal scorer. Give him PP time on any team and he will score 20-25 goals in a full season. Teams will pay about what I mentioned for that imo

You'd pay a 2nd, 3rd and kisakov for Mike hoffman?

We likely get a 3rd for him.

Take up 2 retention slots, lose a point per game center, a 50 point winger for a couple of mid players and picks?

Miller will probably be productive for around 4 more years. Yes the back half is ugly but that is how all long term contracts end and the cap should be significantly higher. Teams pay for the good part of the contract. Even contracts like Gaudreau, Kadri, Horvat, Huberdeau are going to age terrible but GMs still hand them out like candy. Boeser on the other hand will still produce 50 points a season even though he has looked pretty bad. Yeah it isn't the most ideal contract but it is only for 2 more years so not a tough pill to swallow

Is there a reason you think Olofsson's value is so low? Yeah he is pretty one dimensional but 25 goals is still an asset

You are giving up some "mid" players as well and getting value for Miller who in 2-3 years when you might be good and/or have pettersson/Hughes taking up 20 million on your cap will be an albatross

Say what you want about Miller and Boeser, but those two have combined for 135 points this season. Myers is a trash can though

Maybe. You could be correct but his style of hockey (all offense) has the danger of slipping. Guys like Kadri and Huberdeau have something they can add defensively. So if their offense slips, it isn't as terrible. Miller, like Boeser, is a one trick pony who is, currently, really good at that trick.

The cap might make up for Miller's terrible contract at the end but man, I see a path where it keeps them from adding the last piece or two and wastes the prime of Petterson and Hughes. That would be tragic.

    No a 2nd OR a 3rd and B prospect.

I dislike Mike Hoffman so no personally wouldnt want him but with retention yes Id say hes worth a 3rd and B prospect OR a 2nd
