Dubois to MTL is inevitable

Description
I don't know if theres many Habs fans out there who want to trade Florida's first for Dubois (including myself) when it seems written in the stars that he's going to be coming to MTL one way or the other but putting myself in the shoes of an NHL front office, when you have the opportunity to make your team better for both the near and long-term future you have to take it.

Such as the Rams said **** dem picks, the Habs have enough prospects cooking through the juniors, NCAA and Laval and although Florida's pick could be something nice, its not guaranteed to be a top 6 if not top 3 player such as Dubois so you take it.

Attracting talent to Montreal is difficult on its own with the media, weather, income tax and language barrier so when theres someone of Dubois' caliber willing to come you don't walk you run.

Fingers crossed this isn't Drouin 2.0.

It seems that way, but I see him as a 1B like Suzuki… a second line centre on a contender. I don’t see him moving the needle all that much

Dubois isn't groundbreaking. He'd be a solid 2C behind Suzuki. He isn't a superstar or anything, so I think if Montreal wanted to make a move for him before he reaches FA, they shouldn't break the bank to do it

For a long time I was against moving the Florida pick, but because its confirmed to be outside the top 15 I'm open to it.

I wouldn't make any move until a lot closer to the draft just in case we are able to win the lottery and get a top center. Also, there's a good chance a solid player will drop given how talented this draft is and how some GM's will like to go off the board.

With that said I'm totally open to moving it in a Dach like move, but I wouldn't mind targeting a goalie like Hart or someone else.

Change Norlinder, who does nothing for Winnipeg, to Beck and you'll have a competitive offer.

No chance PLD signs either lowball extension offer.

I agree he will come here but only with an extension that the habs arec omfortable with.. He is not better than suzuki and we wont pay him more.. so chevy will have to lets us negotiate with him and he will have to be reasonable on the dollars if not we dont do this deal.... Remember when you keep the 3 assets and use dach at center we dont need dubois and we wont let him mess up the cap strucure the way tavares did to toronto.. So caufield and dubois under suzuki cap hit or dubois plays somewhere else and we keep our three assets... So chevy could mess up the trade but so could dubois by asking for to much.

If you trade without an extension then dubois now has us over the barrell and can ask for the world as he knows we just lost 3 assets for him.. So dubois at 7.8 x 8 years and we trade no extension and we wait for another year

IMO, the Fiala trade makes the most sense as a good comp. Therefore the Florida 1st has to be included and a good prospect. I don't think it has to be a Farrell, Roy, Beck, Hutson or Mailloux type but it has to be a good prospect. We also have the cap room to add him without sending Dvo back but the Jets are going to need a replacement center from somewhere so why not as part of the deal.

There seems to be this quite frankly stupid notion that its either dubois or nothing when it comes to a trade for the habs.

A top 20 pick Dvorak and a prospect can get you a boatload in return. The habs can go elsewher and get a dubois calibre player and if he signs in a year great if not no big deal

The 17th overall pick is more than enough but here comes the delusional takes with the 'mystery' leverage and 3 1sts plus prospects awaiting the Jets at the TDL for a player that most likely will have to be dealt before camp

Fiala has better points production but the fact that PLD is a center evens it out! This draft is also better than last season so the Cats 1st and a B prospect is more than fair when the Jets are over a barrel.
Brock Faber has progressed quite well under the Minnesota umbrella but he was a B prospect over the Summer. Someone like Heineman that has been a B prospect coming from Sweden but is over a PPG in the AHL rn and he has that size to replace PLD.

Exactly if they are willing to trade a top20 pick(17 or 18) they can get an easy comparable to PLD. Right defence is the bigger need when they have Suzuki-Dach-Beck-Kidney down the middle

So Habs take the 17th overall pick from the Cats and Heineman to get a top4 RHD then sign PLD over the Summer as a free agent. For once, i agree. Pld should not come to Montreal for that offer.

Happy to say I have held firm in my stance since the Friedman report that Beck should not be dealt to the Jets when half the Habs fan base here was including him in offers to appease some delusional Jets fans for likes!

Some Habs fans here arent Habs fans but trolls for attn.

Hughes is smarter than some random known capfriendly homer. He won't move Beck for a 2C.

Stop asking for PLD and thinking that Winnipeg will give him away for less than his rental price. Montreal has no leverage, they'll need to pay a fair price or they won't get him. Trades need to work for both teams, so offering pieces that have no value to Winnipeg, like Norlinder and Dvorak don't move the needle.

In all likelihood, PLD is traded and extended elsewhere. Montreal doesn't have the quality prospects or roster players that Winnipeg needs or would want.

If Dubois to MTL is inevitable why give up assets to get him??? I really don't see Montreal making the playoffs next season so there is no reason to give up assets that can be used elsewhere. Personally if Hughes gave up Dvorak, Norlinder and a mid 1st in this years draft to get PLD a season early I'd be worried about his decision making.
