Speak softly and carry a big Offer Sheet

Description
For today's hypothetical scenario, we pretend that the Ducks win the draft lottery and as a result, Verbeek celebrates early and begins mixing Vodka with his Monster after the 1OA selection.

Emboldened by this liquid courage, the little ball of hate goes around to make a few strong armed draft day trades to pick up some young talent from cap strapped teams.

As per Verbeek tradition, he'll keep Bedard down in the minors for the first part of the season, he'll get his 9 games in this year, and then be on the roster full time the next season. Can't waste that ELC push if you don't have too.

NYR and DAL are the strong arm trades, Boston trade is an idea I've been floating for a while now that seems fair given the cap constraints Boston has.

Only big UFA signing is Dumba, yeah, I know its an overpay, but there are not a lot of RHD available, and he is still a top pairing guy minutes wise. He also fits the mold of the player Verbeek is looking for, I think he will be a great leader for the young defenseman coming into the system.

Shattenkirk is just a plug until Helleson is ready to go, as a veteran, he will be able to guide the young LHD's that will get their 9 games each this season to get a taste of the show while someone is injured or after the TDL.

Yes, I bought out Silf, no, I really don't care, I understand I could have just left him as 13th forward, but the buyout really won't hurt Anaheim.

Détails additionnels:
"Hey, Chris, congratulation on the cup run this year, it was really exciting to watch your boys in the post season, but you know what they say, with the cup, comes the tax. I notice you've got a couple of young guys needing a payday and not a lot of room under the cap, it would be a shame if someone were to offer sheet one of your guys next week in say the 4 million AAV range......

Tell you what I'll do, I'll give you a near as makes no difference 1st round pick with the 34 OA selection and that new kid we just got from Minnesota, Niki-something. You avoid the embarrassment of loosing a player to an offer sheet, LaFreniere gets to play on a top line, its a win win, Nick is even from New York, he was born in Brooklyn!

Tell you what though *hic* this trade isn't done before the start of the 2nd round, deals off, and I will offer sheet his ass next week. Tick Tock Chris......"

Détails additionnels:
"Jim, you put together a hell of a team this year, really gave Colorado a hell of a pounding. I noticed you're pretty slim on cap for this coming season, got a little under 8 million to fill out 6 roster spots. It would be a crying shame if someone were to put you in a tough spot by giving an offer sheet to that kid Ty, say something around 4 million AAV.

Tell you what I'll do, since i'm in such a great mood *hic*, I'll give you our 2nd round pick next year and that winger we picked up from Washington, Brett I think it was? He didn't do much with us, but he's 6'4", he's just taking a bit longer to develop. However, he's right shot and tied up for another year at 775.

I've got a couple other irons in the fire though, so I'll need to hear back before the 2nd round of the draft starts, or I will offer sheet his ass next week. You're on the clock, Jim......"

I like Nesterenko.

I’d prefer a 2nd and Tracey/Perreault

There’s no point of buying out Silf.

Probably a bit to “optimistic” on the Terry and Z deals.

The only Lol is thinking you could move Trouba, and these aren't offer sheets, they're trades.

Still got Millers deal to worry about too.

Rangers don’t consider it obviously. Trading Trouba is a possibility in 2024 with his reduced NTC.

Then out comes the offer sheet at 4.2 million. Either NY matches and cripples their ability to put a roster together in 23/24, or they get a 24 2nd.

You can’t lose Laf tho, Rangers will get the contracts done before free agency. I was worried about Kakko but after the deal he got I think Miller or Chytil was the only threat for an offer sheet.

I'm sure Drury is shaking in his boots from your threat and will obviously agree to take even less for any of his RFA's so as not to incur your wrath.

Yeah, I understand there is mathematically a way to keep him on the roster, but you are running a 21 man roster, had to buy out Goodrow, and are relying on a bunch of budget signings.

Your cup window is open, Laf is taking a while to develop, it might come down to a decision between the two.

I wanted to point out that we are in no way beholden to blackmail. Yeah losing Goodrow sucks, but that is something that is going to happen regardless if to have a competitive team. Now I take Laffy over Goody any day of the week, call me crazy. And Laffy is half a point a game player playing top 9 min. And that line with Chytil and Kakko is a unit and have not worked as good separated. So yeah, 4th line players don't need to cost 4 M. We can find cheaper. Much better way forward than this bs you posted here.

Delusional is assume there will not be tough decisions made this summer. Your top pairing LHD is probably gunning for Dahlin money, even if you talk him down to 5 mil AAV, that leaves 7.3 million to sign a backup goalie and 4-7 skaters, including Laf.

If he isn't signed by offer sheet day, I would assume he is gone.

I don't think they are optimistic deals. Terry would be getting 50 million over 7 years, seems fairly spot on to me. I know Zegras is flashy, and the skill is clearly there, but its not translating to the score sheet as much as it should be. Hughes is the cap for his draft class at an 8x8, Cozens was selected at 7OA and got a 7.1x7, I think he gets between 7 and 7.5 on an 8 year deal.

Nestrenko is just a whatever piece for me, yet another center, he's rail thin for his height, and yeah, there's skill there, but there's skill there in a lot of the youth Anaheim has. He won't be playing C on our roster, and I don't see it as a loss to get a natural winger, besides, NYR is short on centers, its a better fit on their end than one of our wingers.

Yeah, probably not on Silf, but as I said in the description, kind of don't care.

Yea I’m sure Laf’s gonna want to play in Anaheim over NYC…

Have you watched the rangers play? Miller is not our top pairing guy, nor has he shown that he’s worth dahlin money lol.

2nd highest average TOI after only Fox this season, 2nd highest in points among D after only Fox yet he doesn't play on the powerplay. Rather sounds like he is your #1 LHD even if his usual running mate is Trouba, and rather sounds like he will be coming for his payday this offseason.

And yeah, if it meant having a legitimate shot at a top 6 role with some of the brightest young stars in the game and included a payday, I am certain he would take it over being stuck on the third line in NYC. We may be a small market team, but you all seem to forgot/ignore, Southern California is a massively desirable place to live, especially if you have money.

I certainly enjoyed every single part of this edition of What If!

I like seeing another one of the fellas hitting the 7.25 x 8 mark for Z — the Svechnikov deal feels closer than the Hughes like you said previously

I wonder if we could even see something more like 6 x 7 for Terry — I gave him a 6 x $6,975,000 yesterday in a AGM I messed with

I messed with trading for Andrew Peeke and Jake Bean from CBJ for potential Fowler and Drysdale parters in that same AGM — thoughts on that? (It was 23 & 24 3rds since CBJ fans seem to dump them a lot so wanted to add some value going back)

you do realize that Anaheim is basically part of the greater Los Angeles metro area, right? Like, the Panthers' arena is just as far from downtown Miami as the Honda Center is from downtown LA - while I'll always tout NY supremacy over both of those towns, it's not like he'd be moving to the boonies.

Cute story. Your threats are unrealistic though, considering owners are obviously against self spiking rfa salaries. We can fit them in anyway, as is. Our problem is after signing them, bad f depth for 1 year. The question is, do we trade any of these 3 for depth cap? Laf Lindgren Goody. Offersheet talk and stealing young rfas for pennies is not a thing, it's a lazy acgm thing

Lindgren has been injured for a bit so yea he is our 2nd highest lmao

Laffy’s not gonna want to sign to a bottom feeder when he’s on a contending team.

He’s getting top 6 next year, he’s looked sharper than kreider who is on a slow decline, pretty sure we’d prioritize a former first overall over a 31 year old, keep dreaming.

P.S: SoCal and Anaheim aren’t very desirable places.

This is sort of besides the point, but I read this interview with Nesterenko (shoutout Derek Lee) where he said he made the move to wing and actually prefers it

"Though he was originally drafted as a center, Nesterenko says that the last time he played down the middle was in prep school. “As soon as I got to juniors and then college, I played wing the whole way through. So I’d say I transitioned my game to wing now, I’m more comfortable playing wing.""

With that said, I wouldnt mind any of these deals. Though I agree I would be more willing to part with Tracey or Perrault if they were an option. Might restructure the bottom 6 a little, but as always the Defense looks perfect. If we make enough Dumba/Forbort ACGMs, GMPVB has to eventually listen to us, right?
