He only has a year left on his contract so I'm not sure it would be worth it for the Sabres.

If the Jets decide to blow it up, they definitely could do worse than this offer. I do agree with Boos though that only 1 year left makes that a bit of an overpayment. Maybe if there's a reasonable extension as a part of the deal?

you also have to be sure devon levi isn't the guy. if he's the guy, you need to keep money free to pay him to be #1 and then save money for dahlin, power, then quinn and peterka.

Don't think hellybuck makes sense for what he likely would go for. No term and will want huge money

Paying dahlin, power and hellybuck in the same offseason is frightening

We're going to have to do this anyway. Its unavoidable. Even if its not hellebuyck, you think the RHD they acquire thats actually good is going to sign some sort of discounted deal? Probably not, right? A two way forward that plays like Tuch? Unlikely to sign for what Tuch did if they're a pending RFA, right? The only thing you can control is making sure you pay the /right/ guys.

No, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion we have to pay a goalie or non dahlin/power defensemen 8+ million dollars.

Well, hellybuck will cost well more than 6, hence my reticence

Im saying at minimum theyll have to drop 6 mil if theyre getting a quality player, so why is 8 mil for hellebuyck bad?

Because Skinner plus Thompson plus Cozens plus Tuch plus Dahlin plus Power plus Samuelsson will almost certainly be at least $45 million. That leaves less than $39 million to fill 16 slots, and you still haven't made progress on your RhD softness. It can be done, but not comfortably if you add in $8 million for a goalie.

The whole point of amassing an insane amount of picks and prospects is that it gives you the kind of buffer you need to move Skinner's contract when it is necessary. Helps that hes actually producing now.

Draft picks and prospects mean less than an early-morning poop to a guy with an NMC.

Lots of goalies available via UFA this summer. They are cheaper cap and don't cost assets. I still say Swayman or Samsonov could be good alternatives with 4.3m offer sheet which costs a second and maybe can't be matched by Bruins and Leafs. Sabres, looks like a team on the rise....I see it as being attractive for players to sign there.

idek what this is. My point is he no longer sucks and his contract can be moved, even if they have to overpay to do it. Worst case it ends up being a buyout

Not sure how it works cap wise. And are we looking at 8x8?

I'd sign up for like 3x7

Like the first trade, I can't see Buffalo doing the 2nd one with the Golden Child here now. Could see a Frederick Anderson or Talbot for a year or 2.

And my point is that his contract CANNOT be moved -- that's what a No Movement Clause means.

Buying Skinner out when all of your RFAs get raises (2024) saves you less than $2.3 million against the cap in the first two years, and in years 4 and 5.

Actually no movement clause just means he picks where he wants to go, not that the contract can't be moved as players with no movement clauses are moved *checks notes* all the time?

Who said anything about buying him out in 2024? What do you mean all the RFAs? Quinn and Peterka's contracts expire in 2025. Kulich and Savoie would still be on an ELC

No player with a NMC has ever been moved against his will. Do you not know how Skinner came to Buffalo? Check your notes more carefully before talking next time.

The RFAs I'm talking about are the RFA's everyone else is talking about here, and whom I mentioned by name in my first comment (without reference to Krebs and Mittelstadt, who are also upcoming RFAs) and the year was specified in the comment you quoted. Your comment about Skinner being bought out as if that is a solution but not being bought out in the year we're all discussing because that's the first year he's a problem is utterly nonsensical -- buying him out AFTER the cap squeeze is pointless. Do you not read what other people write, or just not bother to think about it?

When the posts are this rude for no reason, yes I generally bother not thinking about them. Although I will point out that you accused me of that, asked me to check my notes, then completely misrepresented what I was saying. I’m obviously really stupid, but I don’t think at any point I insisted they move skinner against will. But I will check my notes and reach out to you via email.

B4 the WPG fans get mad, I was messing last time, I meant the year before, I drafted him 1rst in fantasy last year, well you know what happened. He’s having a nice bounce back from what I’ve seen. But my comment is he actually would be perfect, him or F.Andersen for ONE year, then they can leave or in Andersens case, stay and be Levi’s backup.
