Since Winnipeg passes on Montreal PLD trade offers

Description
1 year deal for Dubois. Signs an 8 year extension as soon as he’s allowed. Makes it a 9 year deal.
Congratulations Winnipeg on your underwhrental return for Dubois at next year’s trade deadline from a team who knows he’s not extending there.

Still tons of cap space to add. Or to activate Price if he’s healthy (in a year where we’re actually trying to win).

I'd argue that with this new info some habs deals have gotten worse the more and more Dubois gets linked like sure but you run risk of overpaying him as a ufa and might be stolen away with the right team and cap (5% ain't nothing) so we'll happily take the rental price and watch as hab fans complain they didn't pony up for him

I've said it many times here before and what Jets fans don't seem to understand is that PLD and Hughes are in complete control on this.

    1. If the Jets look to make a deal with ANY other club, that club is going to ask to speak to PLD before any deal is finalized given the rumors of him wanting to come to the Habs. No team is going to give up what the Jets will be looking for if they'll only be getting PLD for one year and then lose him for nothing in return as a UFA.

    2. Given the point above, and the fact that Hughes knows that the Jets are desperate to at least get something/anything for PLD....he can play the waiting game and then low ball the offer. The longer the Jets hold off....the offer starts to become lower and lower.

If/when Hughes pulls off this trade it will be considered the steal of the century

Don’t need to overpay when the player wants to play here. We’ll find a number that works for both sides.
A 1-2 punch of Suzuki and PLD for the next decade is gonna br awesome!

Yk we can still trade him as a rental and based on his size and game would be a damn good rental deal if ror gets a first and decent prospect then the jets should be able to get a similar if not better package that fits their needs better than a purposeful low ball. Hey you do you if you want to hope he sticks to his word and signs a deal as a ufa go right ahead, definitely gonna be a bigger cap hit as well as contract structure

Many Jets fans “believe” that Dvorak isn’t a good player. Yet most of those who hold that opinion have also probably not seen him play more than 10 games. Probably many not more than 5 games.

That's if you actually get him lol you're the guy that thought that Edmundson and Monahan were worth a 1st each so idk who's more crazy on the valuation. Look at other instances trouba still got a first and good dman in pionk. Just because a player wants to play somewhere does it mean that the team always waits until their a ufa.

An overpayment for PLD is nothing to worry about for Hughes. There's significant contracts coming off the cap for the next five years. Also the cap will significantly raise 2 to 3 years from now. Overpayment for a core piece for the next 8 years while you rotate in youth on other positions is of no concern for the habs and ghats how dynasties are built...ie Pens, Hawks, Bolts,

I'd love to watch him play is he playing right now... oh wait he's out for the season with a leg injury that requires surgery. He simply is a Lowry 2.0 and that's not even from me I've read enough on here from hab fans to know that man is just there pretty much and doesn't match the team or the timeline and likely is the first casualty to sending cap out for a non negative return (armia may be first idk)

That could be the difference between keeping someone important, signing someone long term vs short term, affording a ufa/trade target. Cap is a damn valuable asset so sure you save the assets that could make your team better in like 3 years or you can trade basically magic beans that the jets hope turn into something and no guarantee that a single future makes it. Plus you get him signed for cheaper and don't risk losing him via low ball ufa offer. There is a cost benefit analysis to be had at what is more valuable cap that can directly affect your team or the physical assets that can help your team but kidney, 2023 first or whoever else is exactly gonna be what Dubois is.

What Jets fans also don't understand is that if any deal is made for PLD regardless if it's the habs or any other team a roster C NEEDS to be going to the Jets.....they have no Centers that are anywhere close to replacing him in their depth charts

Still better than what you proposed here lol. And Dubois is better than ror, younger, less long term injury history, and can be afforded by more teams via double retention (1.5m vs 1.875m)

I wouldn't count out lambert tbh. Man has been electric in the whl and was great in preseason. Also could try perfetti at c as he's played in junior and ahl so not a requirement but if cap needs to come back a c would be the most realistic

Edmundson is worth a 1st. We’ll get it next year if we don’t keep him. I said a second most likely for Monahan (at half salary) but his injury not improving killed that.

He’ll be back start of the season. In case you haven’t been paying attention, we’re letting the kids play, and tanking to have the best shot at Bedard.

The likelihood he's traded to mtl just make too much sense based in what everyone has stated from discussion between the gms, KH willing to make a dach like deal, Dubois wanting out. We can be upset together as you don't want to trade for him and likely do and I would realistically want more but both of us will have to live with a deal that is mid

Hughes will trade for him for sure. But Jets fans definitely won’t like the return.

I doubt we give up the Florida 1st. Hughes paid 13oa and 66oa for 4 years of Dach at a reasonable cap hit and the contract expires with him still a RFA.
A 1 year PLD rental price? Way less.

Remember it needs to beat the rental offer and that 2023 first is a real boost to getting PLD for 7 years at a cheaper cap hit than if waiting for ufa. The get the benefit of ensuring PLD and getting him now for an affordable rate can be vital into the future on a deal with term. PLD is also a more established player in his own right with multiple seasons being a top 6 center while dach had injuries and bottom 6 time. There has to be some premium asset the jets get for him like the 17th over pick kidney kapanen and dvorak doesn't seem like that farfetched of an offer and makes sense all around

I agree it needs to beat the rental offer. That’s not hard to do though. What I proposed above is a way to sign effectively a 9 year deal (to lower the cap hit). None of that likely matters though as Winnipeg’s best option will likely be to take the Habs’ package.

Right now the Florida pick would be 14oa. The Habs are rebuilding, which is why they would pay a 13oa for a player with 5 RFA years left in Dach. Hughes knew what he was getting. Apparently Chicago didn’t know what they were giving up. But it’s Hughes who matters for PLD, not Chicago. And there’s no other team in the league that is paying anywhere close to 14oa in this years deep draft for PLD. So that’s also likely moot.

If Winnipeg plays hardball, they’re getting a weak rental price (late first rounder) plus meh whatever else from a team who knows he won’t sign there long term, and no valuable roster C who can play now.
Kidney, Kapanen, Dvorak, and an early second rounder is nothing to sneeze at.

So that’s also likely moot.

any PLD trade needs a first as a base so remove Kapanen and make it the first the jets are retooling and need the pick as its the asset that defineds the trade

I disagree with you that Chevy will prefer 27-32oa in 2024 plus meh rather than 37oa in 2023 plus Kidney plus Dvorak at a reasonable cap hit for 2 more years.

We will see though. Time will tell.

I doubt we give up the Florida 1st. Hughes paid 13oa and 66oa for 4 years of Dach at a reasonable cap hit and the contract expires with him still a RFA.
A 1 year PLD rental price? Way less.

Dach had 59 points in 3 years when that trade was made. Dubois has 58 points this year. Thats revisionist history
