Calgary doesn't have the space for this, and where does OEL slot in? Our 3rd pairing. This is horrible for Calgary since they are also adding around a million dollars when they have 300k cap space, with a 18 man roster. This makes Calgary significantly worse.

Toss Beauvillier into the Anaheim deal and we will throw you a 23 2nd. Not our own, but Colorado or Boston, whichever is earlier.

Not a bad idea with the Calgary trade, but no way both OEL, and Huberdeau waive, and I believe Huberdeau has a way better chance of bouncing back than OEL does. Also if I’m Calgary, I would rather hang onto Huberdeau than grab OEL. Just not a big fan of him.

Flames decline. You can just buy out OEL this summer if you need out that bad

Not so much that I want OEL out, I actually want Huberdeau on the Canucks since I feel like he'd bounce back very well given the quality goal scorers VAN has. He'd also do great on our PP.

I think Huberdeau would waive, the chance to play with EP40 would be great for his career. The challenge would be to get OEL to agree but if he was told that he'd be given PP time in CGY I think he agrees.

Calgary has quality goal scorers. That's hardly his issue this year. Flames aren't trading hom for pennies

Doesn't really matter where he fits 5v5, he's just coming in to run the PP since he's still one of the best PP QBs in the league, just doesn't get the opportunity in VAN bcuz of Quinn Hughes and now Hronek.

Calgary can't afford him like I(and possibly multiple others) said on trade machine. Its not happening. We would require 50% on both to make it worth while. OEL is a cap dump, contending teams don't take cap dumps
Also even if he is a PPQB a 7 million dollar dman on the bottom pairing isn't good cap management

Maybe.. I mean, Lindholm is a very good player. Not as good as Pettersson, but I think Calgary can compete way faster than Vancouver too. He may waive, I personally just don’t see it.

Oh sweet baby Jebus, Calgary declines. Huberdeau at his worst is still more productive than OEL at his best. I like garland, but Calgary would need hockey trades if it is gonna be cap-in, cap-out. This makes them significantly worse.

Even as a Canuck fan can I just say we should stop with adding Bedard to our lineup. We have less then a 2% chance of it happening because of where we are in the standings.

Livingstone would be a huge get. I'd also like to see HIrose.

I don't see why you would want Huberdeau. Even if he does bounce back it will be adding another aging player with a huge contact like MIller when you have to resign EP40.

Way too much risk for Byram who is a great young player but who has had a hard time staying healthy because of concussions.

Vancouver is much closer than CGY, they have franchise cornerstones in Pettersson & Hughes, Demko is one of the best goalies in the league, you can see how much better they've been since Demko came back from injury. Add a Top 10 pick from this year's draft and they'll a lock for the playoffs next season. CGY doesn't have any franchise defining talents and the majority of their best players are over 30, they need to tear everything down and rebuild.

Grew up as a Canucks fan, from BC, played Junior in Vancouver plus there's no way he gets that kind of money from the Avs, they can't afford it.

4 years of pain to get out of 8 years of pain since Huberdeau just isn't working in CGY.

Huberdeau's ceiling is higher and every player on Calgary is having a worse season this year (as happens with Sutter's teams after a year). Sutter has a propensity to lift up underperforming 3rd and 4th liners at the expense of talented players. Gudreau and Tkatchuk didn't mesh with him and left: Huberdeau and Kadri are having the same issues, albeit it, one year sooner. If Huby has another skilled Winger to play with, he will return to form for at least half that contract. Huberdeau is one year removed from a 100+pts season, and his style of play lends itself to less of a drop off with age. The same can't be said for Kadri, who will likely be on LTIR for the last 3 years of his contract.

In any case, nobody is taking OEL's contract off your hands; especially Calgary who is already overpaying for an underperforming blue line. The economics don't even make sense. Calgary takes on Salary in this deal to do what... Gain another middle 6 winger and a dead contract ? Cap inflation will mean Huberdeau's AAV % will shrink from 12.57% next year to 11.35% in 2025. It's easier to fire the coach and find other players for him to mesh with than it is to get the reach around from Vancouver for OEL. Philly would be better suited for a garbage swap with the Canucks. .
