Just trade Sam Girard. Very, very simple. Leaves you with Manson, Makar, Byram, Toews, and then you fill in the bottom. Very, very simple.
Again it fixes a hole but not the loss of depth.
You're just shifting depth from one area to another.
COL will match Byram , Trade Girard and still end up cap strapped with lesser pieces then their cup run .
TBL were sustainable as they were churning out picks outside the 1st round and some undrafted ones.
That put them in a position to use them and their 1st round picks to bolster their depth. They've been in and out of Stanley Cup Finals since what 2015?
They rebuilt their Entire Dcore around Hedman after their SCF loss in CHI
They got Cheaper , Younger players with Older more Quality Veterans coupled with crucial depth guys like Schenn, Bogosian , Shattenkirk,Savard , ext they used to bolster them.
COL has kinda sorta started i guess
But not really
There's so many contrasting similarities but it all comes down to Stevie Y and Brisebois hit Grand Slams against the league's best .
Sakic by example will get a Home Run and the occassional Grand Slam but due to being horrible at negotiating contracts he's not consistent as they are.
Issue becomes outside Girard and Toews there's few expendable names with cap hits worth moving .
When Rantanen needs paid that cap increase is absorbed basically by him so it wont be much help , not the way fans are hoping .
But hey Sakic could walk out at the draft and make moves that set him up for a Decade or atleast 1 final cup before ineviatbaly falliny victim to overpaying his guys.
