You literally couldn’t give Mike Reilly away. Nobody is trading for him without receiving compensation.

You can have Vaaks back or the 5th but that 3rd feels way to rich for a rental

Huge difference. When they placed him on waivers nobody had any cap space. Teams wanted him, they just could not do it. Also being on his final year of contract helps as well. 2nd year made it tough. Has more curbside appeal this offseason than on waivers mid-season this year. Finally - buyout is cheap, 333k year 1. They are not paying to move him.

Never said it would cost much to dump him. Just that it would cost something. Also it’s worth mentioning that Anaheim probably would’ve been better off if they had claimed him ngl.

Buffalo had ample cap space when he was put on waivers, and they had a need for D men at the time.... and they still didn't claim him. Don't think they suddenly decide to pay for him now.

I did not say anything about Buffalo. And they really didn’t. Not for 2 years anyway. A 1 year stopgap maybe, 2nd year was a killer.

You made the trade with Buffalo, so it's assumed you meant he would go there. Both Buffalo and Anaheim have a need to pick up experienced defensemen, and have the cap space next year and this year. Hell, Anaheim picked up Harrington on waivers a couple weeks after Reilly cleared and we've been running Beaulieu all season who is a PTO guy.

Problem is his salary is $4 million next season, so the teams who had the cap hit probably weren't interested in coughing up an extra million. It probably won't cost much, but it will cost to dump him.

As to Forbort, I'm interested if I'm Anaheims GM, but I'm leveraging your cap problems to get him cheap. I like the idea of sending Vaakainen back for him, as he has not developed fast enough in Anaheim to hold out a spot from the young talent we have waiting for a spot on LD.

I did not make anything. I just commented and my comment was in general.

If I’m making it Grizz gets traded before Forbort does. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Correct,

Additionally, there will be many teams needing to get to the CAP-floor in '23-24 - enter "Sandman"...
OK ok, it's just UFA M.R. for the 7th as shown above ^ ^ ^!

I'm fascinated to hear what teams you think will be needing help to reach the floor, and of them, who wants to pay 4 million in real money for 3 million in cap.

Anaheim is above the floor after all our RFA signings, Arizona can get to the floor by filling out a 23 man roster with league minimum contracts, Buffalo is over the floor, Detroit needs 10 million but has 10 roster spots to fill, they don't need help, Montreal is over the floor, Vancouver is over the ceiling, Nashville is over the floor, Philly is over the floor, Columbus is over the floor, San Jose is over the floor.

Only Chicago has a lot of space and no known big names to extend, but they're selling cap space,. Not buying cap.
