I don't think CAR and WPG have interest in these deals. Also, they could potentially be able to get more for Wilson.

SEA trade is interesting, but if they move their best forward they'd have to get something truly enticing. I wonder if this is it...

I think the Toronto one is the only realistic one. Why would Seattle trade McCann for an aging expensive defenseman?

I do wonder then if the roles would be swapped between CAR and WPG... with WPG getting the two-way 3C (maybe double retained if the cap hit is that bad) and CAR getting the offensive 2C... would think that in the CAR deal KK would have to be involved for cap and in the WPG deal that a decent prospect or pick would have to be added

if it means getting Wilson they do it. If they can keep Jarnkrok at the same time, even better.

I blocked that trade out of my mind. In my mind Sandin is still with the Leafs. Life is better that way.

So, you're saying Backstrom to Winnipeg? First, he isn't waiving for Winnipeg either and the Jets aren't giving up Perfetti for a 36YO.

"Upgrade at 2C"

Ah yes, Let's go from the 23 year old who is outscoring Backstrom since Backstrom returned from his hip surgery to a guy whose 35 and signed to an anchor of a deal... absolutely easy pass.

WPG and CAR might have interest in players like Kuznetsov and Backström, but not at this cost. Kotkaniemi has more goals than either of the options, and he's not exactly known as an offensive guy. KK is ending the season with 40-50 points at 22, Perfetti without his injuries would be in similar pace. Kuznetsov and Bäckström, while good players, in their age just value-wise are not comparable anymore.

It's a matter of year or two when these young guys are already superior than these two.

The plan to swap these guys for younger ones is a good idea, but the targets here are far too optimistic.

I mean - this is all just bad. None of this is realistic, especially the TOR/SEA trades lol. Might be a troll post honestly

The Caps are trying to compete next year (and the remaining years of Ovi's contract). Caps have been the most injured team in the NHL this year and were still in a playoff spot at TDL. They have already done a solid job at getting younger (receiving Sandin, thank you TOR, and additional picks elsewhere, which can be used in trades). If the Caps can move one of a few players (Mantha through trade or buy-out, Oshie through LTIRetire, or Kuzy through trade, which I do not think would be the brightest move), they will have plenty of cap space to resign Fehervary, possibly Brown, and sign (or trade) for a top 6 winger.

caps pass on all of these except maybe the WPG deal:

Could get much more for Wilson, especially retained
Backstrom is never getting moved
This year should have proven to everyone just how valuable Carlson is -- a legit top 10 defenseman in the league -- they would be stupid to move him at all let alone attach assets to do so

Canes aren’t moving KK. He is on pace to finish the season with 40-50 points, whilst maintaining his elite nature defensively. His contract is already starting to look real good and is only going to look better as it progresses. Besides, Backstrom isn’t even an upgrade at his stage of his career. I can see the Canes making an off-season move for Kuzy, with WSH getting the Canes first and ARI (or other third party) eating 2.8mil and getting PHI 24 2nd and A. Heimosalmi. This package has been agreed on by quite a few people to be fair.
