Description
I still think this team would struggle but they improve for sure.

Goaltending isn't good enough. D corp isn't good enough. Forward group isn't good enough.

But they have a lot of good pieces to build around and move forward with.

I made the Winnipeg trade with Anderson having at least a little positive value. He is a very hard player to gauge value. If he has no or negative value, than this package is short in terms of value. So add a decent prospect to it.

Thoughts?

Fortunately Anderson doesn't waive for Winnipeg, so they don't have to worry about getting stuck with that slug.

Sabres could give you like a 2nd or a 3rd. Mittlestadt is worth more than Edmundson

Can we put it on the record that many many times have jets fans including me inform many mtl agms that Anderson is not a fit for the jets. He would be not in the top 6 and expensive 3rd liners is the last thing we need atm. He also has trade protection so either he blocks coming or leaving if he is included which creates a whole issue of being stuck with him when he doesn't match the direction of the team (physical playoff player on a team entering a retool/rebuild phase) and not to mention that cap wise long term could affect keeping assets into the future. For future reference either don't include him or have a separate deal/3 way deal where Anderson is dealt elsewhere and we get the proceeds of the return.

Slug? You know he is extremely fast right? Anderson is huge and very fast and can score. His game isn't wonderful beyond that though. He has 21 goals on the year right now as well.

I personally don't think he is worth his contract but I can see why a team would like him.

Also, his no trade list is only 8 teams. Winnipeg may be on that list but there are 24 places he can go without issues. Odds are Winnipeg is one of them.

The Oilers decline they don’t need a veteran left wing on a team that has more left wings than spots and Yamamoto when healthy is in their top 6 on the right wing which they actually need.

Yk wpg is on probably 97% of the trade protection right and even then they need to waive if they have it. Canadians may be the most likely to not have them but still the point remains that Anderson doesn't fit the direction of the team and is expensive for most likely a 3rd liner

Edmundson is a very big, defensive dman on a decent contract. Mittlestadt is younger and is a middle 6 centre/winger, also on a decent contract.

I see their values to be very similar.

Buffalo could very much benefit from a guy like Edmundson though. I would consider this trade if I were them.

Yamamato has put up so few points this year in a very big role. This move gives Edmonton more cap space (which they can very much benefit from), a replacement level player (who can play both wings) and a draft pick.
Montreal get the younger guy with more potential upside.

That's how I view the trade and why I see it making sense for both teams.

Would this trade work better if it were Dvorak included instead of Anderson?

It would work better but again it would mean more compensation value wise maybe take out a 2nd and and add in Dvorak and beck

2023 first Dvorak beck and Colorado 2nd

It would but then you'll have an onslaught for the trade as is rn. Issue is everyone sees the value and situation differently so what I'd ask is more opinionated rather than actual full realism. Issue is with all the conditions up in the air (where he's willing to sign, term, cap, rental vs extension in place) there's just too much that is unknown to make Dubois trades that would have a consensus

wow habs fans stop trying to trade one of our only fast big guys .. give it a rest.. we need him. We dont need Dubois this fall at all we need to get another decent pick to continue the rebuild... trading for dubois now would be like signing free agents too soon... we need to be top ten in picks for one more year and then dubois is free

Yeah, but he gets those points playing higher in the lineup and mire minutes than he should be playing and he's too awful defensively to play in the bottom 6.

The Jets have Connor, Ehlers, Wheeler, Perfetti, Niederreiter and Namestnikov all ahead of him, putting him are #7 on the wing. He simply has no value to the Jets.

He also earns more than his cap hit and would be tough to move, just as Montreal found out when trying to move him at the TDL, as he continues to decline into his 30s.

The Jets will already be selling Dubois at a discount, they aren't going to exacerbate that by getting older and worse with an unmovable (without heavy retention or taking back equally bad contracts) player.

Almost all players have Winnipeg on their no trade list, so we can safely conclude Winnipeg is on Anderson's. Couple that with no interest from Winnipeg and he's out as a trade piece.

For the record I am a Leafs fan and I made this AGM.

I disagree with your perspective though. Getting a top 6 centre who wants to be in Montreal would drastically help them in the rebuilding process. PLD is only 24 years old. He will be in his prime when Montreal starts being competitive.

No. Dvorak is currently injured and won't be ready until the start of the season, so he has no value. Winnipeg isn't gambling their best trade piece on a player who may struggle coming back from a bad knee injury.

Plus he has trade protection kicking in next year, is an expensive bottom sixer and declined quite a bit this year. He's a more expensive, worse defensively version of Lowry. The Jets won't want to be stuck with another expensive declining player they can't move.

While I don't agree with some Jets fans views on Anderson, the fit isn't there for the Jets he would be fighting for 2nd or 3rd line minutes on the Jets. That just doesn't make much sense for them, that being said Montreal also wants to keep Anderson and we can find a way to make the cap fit without having to send cap back to Winnipeg anyway. We have several expiring contracts or contracts that expire after next season so trading them over the summer shouldn't be too hard, we also have Price that is on LTIR so we can exceed the cap by his 10.5 mil as well.
