Description
1 Trading Jake is a must if we want to truly rebuild. He is the only player we could trade that could bet a 1st plus a valuable prospect in return.

2 Sid, Geno, and Tanger are going no where. It is clear that Sid wants them around and as long as he is playing at this level he should get his guys. If Sid wants out or decides to retire at the end of his contract, then that is when things change but until we know what Sid wants they stay.

3 Jarry must go. I’d rather sign a stop gap goalie like Korpisalo. He would give the team a chance to remain competitive.

4 This isn’t rebuilding the way Chicago has done it. This is rebuilding while the core still is competitive. We have to be realistic that while our older core is still very good, the metropolitan has some loaded teams that aren’t going anywhere. Carolina isn’t going to fade away, the Rangers will remain about where they are for the foreseeable future, and NJ is just getting started. They’ll only get better from here. The Isles are going to be our road block team for a while as long as Nelson and Lee play. Columbus is a mess but there’s talent on that team and I definitely see them being more competitive next year. It’s really us and the Caps in the same boat, our older players are still very good but Father Time is winning.

4 The Atlantic also is a juggernaut division. Boston is a machine and while Bergeron, Marchand, and Krejci aren’t young, Pasta, McAvoy, and Swayman are. Toronto isn’t going anywhere and while Father Time will get Tampa, their core is still young enough to contend. Then you have young teams on the rise like Ottawa and Buffalo who have pushed us all year and are only going to get better. Florida is a bit of an enigma but they’ll still be competitive for the foreseeable future with Barkov, Tkachuk, and Knight is goal.

5 We have to be realistic. While we aren’t in Chicago territory, if we don’t start stocking up on some futures now, we will be in a hole for a decade after this. The Caps did the right thing at this deadline. We didn’t and that’s no shocker given how our GM is, but here’s to hoping the Hextall, Burke clown show ends after this season.

Note: 2023 firsts are listed under Taxi Squad.

Drop the 2nd and maybe change Drury to someone like Teravainen. This is using the Horvat trade idea, which is fine. But Horvat is going to score 50 goals. Drop the prospect from that deal. The pick is lower down the draft, but that works because Horvat plays a more valuable position in center than Guentzel does.

No. Trading Jake won't happen, shouldn't happen with Sid still on the team.

I doubt the Canes would be the team that would pay a premium for 1 year of a player. He isnt in the age range that we keep players.

My only issue with this is that it's not even a rebuild really. If Guentzel is the only one we can trade then we're better off just trying to compete in my opinion. Rebuilding would be trading everyone. I'm not sure it's even possible to rebuild with the amount of NMC we have on this team.

Dumo's gone at the end of the season. Bring in a new coach to shake things up and bench Carter and I honestly think this team isn't that far off from having the ability to be competitive in the playoffs.

I like this. Lets hope this absolute clown show ends soon. Now that Peterson is out I'd be shocked if we make playoffs.

Why would Jake resign with us? Honestly Sid isn’t playing much longer so why not leave in a year? Jake isn’t part of the cup winning core. 3 of those 4 guys are still here and they aren’t going anywhere unless Sid wants out. Jake is the only valuable trade chip we have.

After what I saw against the Rangers I can’t believe in this team anymore. They’re too old and the goaltending is just awful. We have to remake the whole bottom six, find a LHD who can skate and replace the LHD who could skate that we sent away, and have a complete overhaul of the goaltending. Even if all that happens in one offseason by some miracle where are we going? Can our core at their age match a young upstart team like NJ? That’s a team that’s just getting started. Father Time conquers all.

He’s the age of every major free agent. What age range are you talking about?

That's fair lol - it was ugly. Right - that's fine if you think they should rebuild. My point was if you think they should rebuild, then rebuild. Trading one guy of value isn't a rebuild. But it obviously isn't going to be easy given all the NMC/NTC

But to address your points; they're 14th in the league in save %. Perfectly average - not at all awful. And with a subpar team defense in front of them. There's no overhaul needed - nor do I see one that's realistically possible that's an upgrade. A 4th line of DOC/Poehling/Archibald is perfectly fine. All they really need to address is the 3rd line. Add a decent winger to Rust and Granlund and that's a pretty serviceable 3rd line. POJ can skate. I mean as of right now it does seem that our core can match up. Of course that could drop off a cliff at any moment. But again, that comes back to my main point -if you think the team is toast and want to rebuild, then rebuild. Trade everyone you can

Canes do not sign 28+ players to 8 years contracts. That is also why we dont get in the mix for big free agents for this reason.

Jake lead the pens in goal scoring on the way to the 17 cup and has become Sid's primary winger for 6 years. Moving a point per game winger for picks is giving up on the current team. It makes zero sense to trade someone that valuable if you are trying to win.

Trying to win what? We can’t even get out of the first round when the team was better than it is now.
