I think this is a very strong team going into the 2023-2024 season. You have a strong forward group and a good mix of youth and veteran leadership on the backend. Vanecek and Schmid should be a solid goaltending tandem similar to this year; Blackwood has had every chance possible but injuries and inconsistent play ultimately will drive him out of NJ

I think this team is also very deep. Palat, Haula, and Sharangovich are all capable of hopping into the top 6 if Holtz fails to adapt the NHL game once again. Obviously the hope is for Holtz to blossom next to two elite playmakers in Hughes and Bratt, but if not, we have viable options to replace him in that role. Bastian is a solid depth piece for the bottom 6 and is a locker room favorite; definitely a guy I’d like to be able to pull off the bench. For the extra dman, I’d go with Bahl and waive Brendan Smith. If Smith goes unclaimed, which I think he will, we’ll have Smith, Nemec, and Walsh as viable dmen options to call up from the AHL
