Here's a good idea... Let's tear down our Iron Man & Captain who is 23 playing against the best competition every night with AHL wingers and no other NHL centers.

This is just cruel to Suzuki. He's been really really great under the circumstances and he will get better every year, especially with consistent and healthy wingers who's shot positions he can predict.

Dubois can be OS with a full NMC at 8.4m with MTL paying a 2024 1st , 2024 2nd and 2024 3rd .
If we got Bedard , wouldnt that be the smartest way to do it ?

I mean if WPG matches the only team Dubois is likely to waive for is MTL but even if there's 2-3 teams it limits the market and return.
No way if they match can they get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2024 or better.
IF they keep him its clear its as a Self Rental like DAL did Klingberg when the offers werents as good as they'd have liked (Im assuming he was offered the Chiarot deal , they declined and we got it )

This is a joke, right? right? The Habs are just waiting Dubois's contract out. Hoffman is worth a 3rd, and Edmondson with a 5th is worth a late round 1st or early 2nd

1 year offer sheet won't work for the Habs because they give up all their leverage.

Multi-year offer sheet won't work for Dubois because he cannot risk WPG matching.

This is one of those rare sign & trade scenarios. That's the only way the Habs get Dubois in 2023.

Define Leverage

Are you talking picks?
So what we'll sell off Assets as we begin to succeed and as youth push them out.
Next year there's only 2 years remaining on Savard who's played admirably in MTL
RS on his 3.5 deal with 1 year is valuable. He'll easily get a 1st at 1.75m with 1 years term after next years playoff run for that team.

Matheson the way he's playing in 1-2 years when Hutson forces MTL into a situation where he has to be moved with 1-2 years left on his deal MTL will have people lined up.
We can RS on him with Price's contract covering it until their deals both end. He'll easily bring us a lot in

We'd have so much youth to build around they'll be pushing out players
Some will play themselves into a trade like i see happening with Ylonen as Roy turns Pro
We wont need Rentals in 2024 anyways

Unless you're talking re-negotiation in which yes it limits us but also the entire market at 8.4m or more with term expectation
There is maybe 3 teams with that room in that position

I agree , but EDM did get 3 in a row 2010,2011,and 2012's 1st OA picks
It isnt impossible

But in situations like MTL is in now we end up with 3rd in recent history at best and sometimes we lose position like 2016 when we dropped 2 spots.
but if it did happen MTL wouldnt be in the mix for a 3rd straight like EDM cause they'd be competing

An NMC (or NTC) clause is only an option in UFA eligible years of a contract.

-Winnipeg takes the Suzuki deal and runs with it, I would assume - I'd argue as a non-interested party that they're probably similarly valued players, with PLD having a longer track record of success but Suzuki coming with extensive term already locked in. So Montreal adding in a pretty solid asset in a 2nd rounder makes this a slam dunk accept for me on the Winnipeg side and a questionable decision on the Montreal side.

-Even with full retention, I think the ceiling on Hoffman is a late 3rd/early 4th. He's looked a little better this year than last but still clocks in at about a 40 point player at this point in his career - combine that with the fact that he'll be 34 pretty early on next season and I'd think acquiring teams are going to be concerned that he's very close to his expiration date.

-Edmundson to Edmonton has to be considered dead at this point - the Oilers have Nurse, Ekholm, Kulak, & Broberg as LHD all under contract for next year. Add in the fact that they also have RHD Cody Ceci under contract and Evan Bouchard likely to get a new contract, and you've got your entire D-corps basically ready to go for 2023-24. I think some GM will look at Eddy with full retention and give up a solid asset for him - but it's just not going to be Edmonton.

Just because some desperate team with hopes for a cup run MIGHT trade a 1st for Edmondson, that does not make him WORTH such an offer. Big fan of Chiarot, but that was a gross overpay for his services by Florida last deadline, and it's for that reason that it seems MTL fans are convinced such returns should be the standard inevitably coming their way for a similar player.

Who knows, maybe if he hadn't been injured, MTL would have another 1st Round asset to play with this off-season, but pretty sure the other 31 fanbases would pan such a deal if their team were involved!

If MTL gets a haul for him (and others, ie Anderson), good on them . . . but we all know that we overvalue most of our own assets on here a tad much, and expect lightning in a bottle every time!

In that vein, I'll add that while getting Suzuki would be an amazing return for the Jets for PLD, MTL should definitely not make such a trade. . . Not in this or in likely any universe, even one where Habs get Bedard!

Yes, but that's rarely an issue which would make a significant difference. We did similar with the Aho offer sheet iirc. The thought was the owner didn't have the will or ability to pay out a huge lump sum at the time, again iirc.

It was because he just bought them after being turned down his Expansion in Houston he lobbied for.
Many thought he was hollowing out the team gaining assets before relocating the team.

Aho in turn used his contract situation to test the committment of his new owner to the team before re-signing .

But you're right Aho used us to re-sign on his terms where he at.
PLD could do that just as easy

Yes I was talking re-negotiation. The Habs will risk paying a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for 1 year of Dubois. If they do that and he walks, HuGo will look terrible to the fans.

of course which is why we just wait and play some rookie forwards next year and trad hoffman and send armia down and do not re-sign gurionov or Drouin.. Then play Roy who i am very high on and harvey ylonen and maybe farrell or kidney and bedard if we get him. imagine roy and bedard together again would be awesome. Roy is a 200 ft player who's hockey sense and passing are elite.
