Idk about batherson but Debrincat just didn't have to before now and Chabot really isn't good at it but that's not anything new.

I just think they struggle to play as a 5 man unit out there , they leave the centre of the ice too exposed, the forwards are always lost out there on the defensive end, they’re coasting a lot. And there’s always defensive breakdowns that could be avoided. That’s on the coach imo .

    It's definitely a coaching issue

But not only that, the whole organization is flawed and has been for years

A GM (with his pro scouts) who decides to trade Filip Gustavsson for Cam Talbot just doesn't know what he is doing. It's reminiscent of the Zibanejad for Brassard trade

Dorion is a a "BIG EVENT" GM, he makes big trades, the Chychrun and DeBrincat are not bad at all but the roster construction, the asset management, the lack of foresight gives you the result we are seeing today

This season, our bottom-6 is so TERRIBLE that it makes the rest of the roster flawed. I called it last summer after Brown trade. I realized that trading Paul and Brown was a very big mistake

I know your profile pic is Chabot, but I think the Sens would be better off shipping him out for a huge return

Debrincat was the only one on his line that could do it in Chicago. Kane wouldn't and Strome couldn't skate.

Cat is good. Cat is better at playing D than Batherson. Bath relied heavily on Norris and Tkachuk last year. Now he has to learn... the turnovers gotta stop. Cat's just snake bitten and unlucky. All stats are proving it.

There is just no structure to their "system". DJ is a good player coach, just not a good coach coach... ya know?

You will not find a better option than Cat in your top 6. If you can't/won't re-sign him, you're left with a big hole to fill. Pinto and Greig could, in theory, fill that hole eventually. But, they haven't really shown they can yet. It also doesn't help that in 2 years, Giroux is gone. He's also not getting any younger. So once he's gone, what then? You hope Greig, Sokolov and Pinto can fill that void?

We have an established pure goal-scorer on this team... Let's not jump to conclusions just yet until we have a new coaching staff.

Also, you want to trade Chabot? After 3/4 of this season and all of last season complaining we need a top 4 D. Comon man.

Structure and coaching. They aren't being shown how to support the play.

They are chasing because that's what they are being taught to do. Chase, hit, play hard and fore-check. Skill guys are better when the puck is on their stick.

    Sounds like NJD last year.

Biggest reason Siegenthaler crushed his defensive metrics last year was our forwards were never organized defensively in neutral zone. So he had to step into blueline more than he probably should have been, ended up among league leaders in d-zone denials (Severson too). Our F's were always chasing, never tied up middle of the ice (and rarely blocked shots from point, but that is a separate story). We fired all the assistant coaches, brought in new strategy, and so far, so good.

Batherson's terrible at D, but that doesn't mean you just go dumping people.

Imo you fire the coach first. And if it doesn’t work with a new coach, then you think about a trade

Don't trade them because they are still young and have time to improve.

Coaching, Batherson was +4 last year on a arguably worst team, the whole team doesn't play D and that is on the coaching staff, 3 strait games with a shorthanded goal against, most likely NHL record for odd man rushes against, OTT has been a complete disaster on road trip, OTT can beat bad teams but if a team even remotely plays a little bit good they get crushed .

Stu would still be a LW instead of OTT 1C and a superstar if the moron smith had not been forced to move him to C do to injury, smith is the worst coach in the NHL and will never have another HC job after he fired.

I get what you are saying CSICK, you know I am not a fan of Chabot but you need to get a good return. Chychrun, Sanderson, Chabot all top 4 left shot D so if 72 is moved there is not big hole IMO.
Batherson stops moving his feet in the defensive zone and gets caught flat footed. Explosive player with the puck in stride , he needs better mentoring to round out his game. It wont be hard to move a player with his offensive skill and AAV.
ADB i like but not at 9 million , they need to invest in a number 1 goalie.

    A return of... futures?

That would be another step backward in the rebuild.

They finally have FOUR top-4 D-men for the first time in years and now they should trade one?

Change the GM and coaching staff before doing anything else.

Agreed with most in your post but Stutzle at Center is absolutely where he needs to be. They lucked out, once again.
