Well. They wanted 3 firsts for him, they are retaining, and, even though he's been decent, take back Kotkaniemi. You could take out the second if you want. Imagine EK65 playing with Aho and the rest of the guys. They would be deadly.

Yeah, it was reported that... then the entire hockey community laughed.

Carolina has Burns as their PP1 guy, and could very well extend Ghost if they want an upgrade on Slavin on PP2. I doubt they give up that much for EK. JKK doesn't go anywhere, he's been putting up reliable defensive metrics and he's only 22.

True. But, Burns is older. You need someone to replace him. They still have Scott Morrow in the system. I think Carolina would be fine making this deal

Morrow will likely slide in by the time Burns' contract is complete. You missed the part where they can just extend Ghost, who can play both sides of the ice. This trade makes 0 sense for Carolina.

Look, I see that other Sabres fans have stopped by as well, this really jumped out as being awful. An undersized winger, one year from ufa...you would be lucky to get a third. The winger market is soft, and buffalo wouldn't want him even for just a 3rd.

Looks like a whole lot of you don’t know who Barabanov is. 1st for him is more than fair. Cap hit of just over a mil with retention for a player who could put up 60 points isn’t some crazy trade. Maybe it’s not Buffalo but a team would certainly give up a 1st for him.

I know who he is, so I give you a 1st for a guy signed for 1 more year and who has never scored more than 13 goals in his career. I can think of better ways to use my 1st

Actually we do know who he is!
He is Olofsson with assists instead of goals and the worse +/- among all Sharks.
Generating assists and not goals as he plays primarily with Couture and Hertl, two of the top forwards in the NHL does not guarantee any team will give up a first for him.
Guarantee if Olofsson had the luxury of playing with Logan and Tomas, you would think Victor was a god.

The problem is you do not know the Sabres.
Next year he will be the second oldest Sabre after Jeff Skinner.
Buffalo has two 20 yo who will probobly exceed his pt total next year Quinn and Peterka. with two more 18 yo who will be in the NHL the following year Kulich and Savoie.
He would most likely play the third line meaning assists will not be easy to get.

This is such an easy no as you may get a second from another team but certainly not a first from Buffalo

EDIT:
Here is a trade Alex and 2nd for Olofsson.
13 goals for 24!
Put Victor on the wing with Couture and he gets 35 goals next year, making Buffalo look silly for trading him.

That’s fine, as I said it may not be Buffalo. Likely more of a competitive team that is tighter on cap. $1.25 mil aav for 60 points is damn steal I don’t see why it’s so hard to people to understand that

Literally said in the response it doesn’t have to be Buffalo. The second someone uses +/- as reasoning for anything they lose all credibility. It’s a garbage arbitrary stat that doesn’t show anything. You say Barabanov has a bad plus minus… no sh*t? The sharks are the 2nd worst team in the league what do you expect. Doesn’t mean all the players on the team are terrible and have no value. When the team has a -64 goal differential almost every player will be a -

Then you really don’t understand the mentality that the Canes front office has. First of all, that is a massive overpayment for EK. They Canes aren’t going to move all those draft picks, let alone add KK to the mix. Secondly, we have already seen what happens with Burns and EK on the same team, and it is very unlikely that the end result would be different from before. In the off season, the Canes were supposedly the leading front runner for Klingberg, so why did they decide to go for Burns? It’s the same reason why they won’t go for EK, and that’s because EK/Klingberg are both unreliable at best in the dzone. All of the Canes current dcore are 2-way dmen, and that even includes Ghost. Reason number 4 is any team looking to acquire EK will be a loser if they pull the trigger. The trade that sent EK to SJ gave Ottawa their 1C AND 2C, plus several other pieces. Not saying it will end the same way here, but there is no guarantee that EK is even half the player he is this season on a new team, and giving up 3 firsts, a 2nd, and a high end defensive 2C/3C already locked up long term to take that leap of faith and find out, there is no chance any team that pays that price wins an EK trade. Plus, assuming the Canes resign Ghost, he can do quite a bit of what EK does, for a hell of a lot cheaper, and with the added benefit of actually being defensively competent. And when Burns’ role will need to be replaced, Morrow is very likely to be ready to take that role then and there. Oh, and this is also assuming that EK even waives for Carolina, and while it’s likely, it isn’t a guarantee.

So, what is your counter argument to these points? I would love to hear them.

When has he ever had 60pts, before this year his highest was 39. Sure playing with a couple good players are helping his stats. Plus he gets Heavy Ozone starts. You probably should pick a different team.

FFS, I didn’t make it and, like I’ve said multiple times, Buffalo doesn’t have to be the team to give up a 1st. How dare a player play well with other nhl caliber players. He’s on pace for 55+ points this year on the 2nd worst team in the league. Not much of a stretch to suggest he could score 5 more points than that on a much better team
