He would have stayed in Carolina if the Flyers didn’t overpay him.

Nobody is giving up a first for TDA, especially not the Canes. Besides, with Burns, the Canes have no need for TDA, and the Flyers are going to have to live with the mistake of trading for him.

A team trying to win now would take him at 50%. It’d be a 2nd with a prospect or a late 1st. Contenders never care about late 1sts as we’ve seen.

Boqvist and a 1st for Hayes with no money retained is far too much. If the Flyers are willing to retain 50% then he maybe starts to approach that kind of value. Maybe.

An all star centre isn’t worth 7 million a year? No way would they retain 50% because he’s a good player at a position of need. Columbus isn’t a rebuild team despite how bad your season has been. They can’t afford to after paying Gaudreau and Laine.

The word all-star really doesn't hold the weight it used to. We're at the point where a third of the teams get 2 all-stars now when in reality a third of them don't even deserve 1.

I didn't imply the Jackets are a rebuilding team, I said the price you're proposing for Hayes is far too high. Why would you think you need to educate me on the state of the team?

Your options are trade for a 1st centre or roll with what you have. The only way that changes is with Bedard. And I’m telling you that you’re undervaluing Hayes, not that you don’t know your own team. He’s easily worth a 1st outside of the top 10 and two defenceman that haven’t lived up to their draft stock.

I don’t see them rebuilding so they’ll have to find a way to shed cap and add a winger who can score. I think Zadorov, Kylington, and maybe even Tanev are all possible candidates to move.

Why would the price for TDA, on an expiring UFA deal, even at 50% retained be a 2nd + prospect or a 1st. I don’t see a comparable, Klingberg brought back much less. Ghost just went for a 2026 3rd.

Think the Flyers should temper expectations on the return for TDA at this point.

I assumed a comment like this would pop up no matter where he was traded. At the end of the day teams simply don’t care if a player upset people if that player is good enough to help them win. If it’s a Mitchell Miller situation where serious things clearly occurred that’s different. However, Provorov’s “crime” was not having an opinion that fit that particular narrative that evening. That’s no reason to not add a good player. In fact, it’s a horrible reason.

And I'm telling you you're undervaluing Boqvist. He's 22 years old and scoring at a >.5 ppg pace in about as horrendous of a scoring atmosphere as you can find in the NHL right now. Throwing a player like that away along with a 1st just to overpay Kevin Hayes to play 2nd line center for 3 years and put all sorts of pressure on their negotiation period for Texier, Sillinger, Johnson and Marchenko would be an asinine decision. If the Jackets do end up acquiring Hayes, the Flyers will be retaining money. It's the only way it makes sense for the Jackets. Hell, they'd be better off just running it back with Roslovic another year than going through with this trade proposal of yours.

Retention isn’t out of the question but expecting them to retain 50% for the rest of that contract is. I did it on your end and you’ll have a lot of space left over even if it cost the entire cap hit.

Except he's not good, that's why I made the comment. My issue with his beliefs isn't why I don't want him on the Sabres.

I don't want him on the Sabres because he's a lefty who isn't good. How much value could that possibly add to a lineup that has two first overall left shot d-men on it?

He's bottom 15 percentile in offensive GAR and xGAR, 30th percentile in defensive, and a negative on-ice expected goals differential. All this coupled with a bloated contract at a time where the Sabres are going to have to pay their actually good LHD.

It's still a Nyet for me.

Coronato can score. The issue is Lucic and Ritchie getting ample top 6 minutes and perimeter low risk style hockey. Toffoli for example is as natural a goal scorer as they come. Lindholm is also a very good goal scorer

Agreed but can you see them embracing a rebuild? That’s a non traditional hockey market that’s had no success. They shouldn’t be looking at anything other than trying to add a 1C, either by the draft or by trade.

Ok at least you’re basing it off hockey and not nonsense. You have a lot of LHD for sure but finding a good RHD is tough in a trade. You might be better off acquiring an experienced LHD of some sort and playing Dahlin and Power on the right.

Or they should be looking to address their actual major need which is LD to bridge them to Mateychuk and Svozil and the only reason they're discussing Hayes is because they might be able to get him cheap and not for the ridiculous price you've proposed here.

It's harder, sure, but it would add much more value to the team long term than finding another LHD to play on the wrong side. The Sabres are in a position where they can overpay in terms of assets for the right guy.
