-If you put PLD on the market, this offer easily gets beaten by half a dozen teams. I would assume the value starts at the Bo Horvat package (1st + strong prospect + useful-if-slightly-overpaid roster player) - so Dvorak/'23'1st/Owen Beck maybe? With something else thrown in to make up for the fact that PLD is 3 years younger and has more team control the pending UFA Horvat had.
-I would not be surprised if Anaheim is on Schmidt's 10-team list; beyond that, I don't see anyone trading for 2x$5.95M of that deal when he's seen such a drop in production. Best bet would be swapping him out for another poorly aging contract, if you don't want to buy him out.
-Value is probably about right for Appleton - he's paid a little more than you want to pay a bottom-6 guy, but he's fine for what he is. Not sure if the Oilers are the destination, but not out of the question either.
-Why would New Jersey give up any sort of pick, much less a 3rd rounder, for a 6th/7th D that is a 50/50 shot to get tendered a contract this summer? There are plenty of guys available for just the cost of a contract in free agency that can do what Stanley has done this year (1 assist in 14 GP, averaging 13;23 per night.)
-Terrible trade for Winnipeg, IMO. If you're moving Heinola, you should be getting NHL-caliber players back - especially when you're dealing with the Kings, a team that has more forward prospects in their pipeline than available spots on their NHL roster. You could work out a deal targeting Alex Turcotte, or Sam Helenius, or Alex Laferriere, or The Other Jack Hughes instead of just taking back what is probably a mid-late 2nd rounder at best.
