retaining 3m for 4 years is the deal breaker here. If it was around 500k maybe they'd take it. But I don't expect a McCabe style retention of this caliber of player unless its a serious overpay

I thought I heard Schmaltz doesn't play much C these days and the Avs need a guy that can play 2C. If that's the case, they can't justify making a trade for Schmaltz
