To be fair to the OP, I think if the Habs retain 1M on Josh, the deal is so much more palatable. I know Hughes won't do it, but Josh at 4.5 just makes so much more sense than 5.5, and the Habs really don't care about the money, and I doubt they will need that retention slot beyond this season.

That's a terrible deal for the Habs...we wouldn't give up Anderson for a late 1st even without salary retention.

I'm sure the 50% retention on Anderson was just a fat finger mistake. Same for publishing the trade before completing your offer.

For sure a 4.5 mil Anderson is more attractive to suitors but i agree Boston's first not going to get that done..
Like you said though, with the players they will be moving out in the next few seasons they will want all their retention slots, that also allows them to be the 3rd team in a deadline deal and add assets.

Holl only makes sense if they flip Mayfield out for a better package than this. That being said, if they get a 1st for Mayfield and maybe we can talk Dubas into taking another 3rd for Holl (maybe throw in a lottery ticket prospect?) I could get behind it.

If you only have 30-35 points but 25 of them are goals... the situation is not quite the same.

hes had 20 goals once in his career.....

He has 17 right now... Reasonable to expect he'll hit 25 in another 1/3rd of the season.
