You aren't getting 2 top prospects for Andersen from a team that can't afford him.

-As always, I must ask Montreal fans to look at Calgary's $1.3M of available cap space for 2023-24 and let me know how they think the Flames are fitting Josh Anderson's full $5.5M cap hit on there. Flames pass, because Josh Anderson isn't the level of player you ruin your cap for.

-Pittsburgh just gave away Kasperi Kapanen for nothing because they didn't have the cap space to bring Jan Rutta off LTIR. They currently have a hair under $2M in available cap space; how do you propose they afford Joel Edmundson's $3.5M cap hit if they even *wanted* to give up a 1st rounder for him?

-Did I miss something and Monahan played a game or something? Minnesota already acquired an injured player with an eye towards the playoffs, and that guy only cost them a 5th. Why would they give up a 2nd rounder for another guy who hasn't played since December?

-I'd love to hear your justification on this. Allen is a backup at best on Toronto (and honestly the 3rd goalie if Matt Murray is healthy) so why would the Leafs give up a 1st rounder for him? Full-time starting goalies rarely go for 1st rounders; why would a depth guy get one?

-Drouin has zero goals in 37 GP and has a $2.75M cap hit, after retention. If actually useful players like Pierre Engvall and Marcus Johansson are only bringing back 3rd rounders in next year's draft, why would Drouin get a 2nd in this year's?

Why exactly do we need to start tanking? We aren't finishing bottom 3 and we are likely to finish 5-7th giving us anywhere from a 13-19% chance at the top 2 picks instead of a 16-22% for finishing 3-5th last. The cost of development for the young players we have is more valuable than gaining 1-3% better odds in the draft. We are actually in the perfect spot right now, our schedule is one of the hardest, we aren't going to gain on those ahead of us in the standings and the 2 or 3 teams right behind us may actually pass us. So why sacrifice development just to tank?! Let's just move who we can and keep what we see as being able to help the young guys along and let the lottery sort out the rest.

I'd argue its quite important to finish in the bottom 6 so the worst they fall is number 8 if they lose both lotteries. They are on track to pass the Flyers and Blues while both will now shed more players at the TDL. There are 8 very good prospects IMO that fit the Habs needs then a bit of a fall off. Their schedule is misleading as theyll be playing teams like the Bruins to finish the year that will be resting guys. Remember beating the Panthers 10-0 to finish last season?

St. Louis and Philly are still better teams than the Habs even with the players they moved and Vancouver is doing quite well of late. We have been getting really good goaltending lately as well and I do not expect that to hold up the rest of the way against the top teams. With 16 games this month (3 sets of B2B), 10 are against playoff teams and 2 are vs the Panthers who will be doing what they can to beat the Habs and to lower the pick they give up. In April we have 6 games, 4 vs playoff teams and 1 vs the Ilse's who are still in the playoff picture and won't be resting anyone, of those 6 only Boston on the last day of the season is likely to rest players and even then the rivalry between the Habs and Bruins will mean they play us hard still, so there is no guarantee that we even win that game. We are in for a long hard month and a half with very little rest and very few easy games.

Almost every season the contenders lay off the gas to finish the year. I remember the Red Wings losing 6 games in a row to finish 2002 and won the Cup that same year. The schedule difficulty is such a misnomer at this time of the year.
Remember the Senators in 2015. They won something ridiculous like 30 of their last 35 then lost in 5 games in the 1st round.

A lot of bottom feeder teams go on runs to finish the year. Remember all those Leafs teams. Boyd Devereaux?
Many fans already are anxiously awaiting the playoffs then you have this mad race in the East with a half dozen teams fighting for 2 spots.
I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to see those WC teams finish with better records than the Bruins, Bolts and Leafs to finish the year The Panthers just put 40 shots on the Bolts last night and the Flames put 58 shots on goal on the Bruins. Teams locked in are already taking their foot of the gas
